Sorry Tant, I don’t get your answer.

If I understand what you are saying...

As long as you are striving to be obedient
when you die, then you are 100% sure
that you will go to be in the presence of
God??

Consequently, if you are not striving to be
obedient, you will not go to be in the presence
of God??

If I have not accurately stated your belief,
I apologize in advance. And if I did, would
you kindly correct it?

“The reason is that good works (obedience to Christ’s teachings) are a means to faith; faith is the principle that saves. Remove good works, remove faith. Remove faith, remove salvation.”

If I’m hearing you right, you are not 100% sure until you
take your last breath? And do you have to be married
in the Temple and all that to spend eternity in
the presence of God?

best,
ampu

Mormon leaders bought this story hook, line, and sinker.

No they didn't. Where is your proof of this?

This would have netted him approximately $1,500,000.00, after which he could simply repay his LDS investors and claim that he was unable to secure the purchase.

Not a penny was ever spent on any "documents"

(On a related note, one faithful Latter-day Saint actually committed suicide as a result of the crisis of faith he had which was triggered by the contents of the Salamander Letter.)

Lame

During the course of this inventory, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles were made aware of a startling discovery: The McLellin collection was already in the archives, having been purchased by the Church itself in 1908!

and of course they told the author of this article

Whoever wrote this is the biggest DOLT! It is not even well written.

tant,

If you will allow me to “be personal” here in speaking
of you...

You are a wonderful man. You are sincere, thoughtful,
generally kind-hearted, and I believe you have
character. You are exactly not typical of those
I generally referenced earlier. I have many things in
common with you and I’d enjoy having a cup of coffee/
hot chocolate with you. I have other mormon friends
I’ve known for years. So what I wrote above was
general and not specific to you in any way.

And you know I also think you are dead wrong about
everything in Smithville - yet you accept it. It is
only when discussing Smithville that we would probably
have any significant differences. I try to remember
that.

I have occasionally PM’d Christians to give them private
counsel about what they say. On the whole, they can speak
for themselves.

best,
ampu

You might not know this but the Lord does not speak in negatives directly as we do here on earth.

A message receive might come through but the wording is not always that quickly translate.

The words in the Bible that quicken the reader are those that in the spirit of the Lord.

There are some wording in the Bible that are as transcribed by men and can be discern that are under the influence of the Lord and sometimes causes it receiver to take on a combatvie recourse toward his fellowman.

This is what so remarable about the Book of Mormon for the council is given in so many passage under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

The way things are phrased will lead one to the Love of God or lead away.

Unless the Lord dealt with the Sons of Perdition (SOP).

His council was always to persuades his children to do right up until no time was left to turn around!

You’ve been suckered by a guy long dead who wanted lots of sex. There is no excuse for it in my mind,

We agree. I can’t remember the last time I was suckered, and certainly not by a sex starve dead guy. That is so bizarre as to be unbelievable.

From Desert News Newspaper:

“Steve Christensen and Kathy Sheets were Hofmann’s most tragic victims. But Hofmann also had three other financial victims: the LDS Church, which owns 446 Hofmann forgeries and whose history was challenged by some of Hofmann’s more damaging distortions; coin and document dealer Al Rust; and Provo document collector Brent Ashworth.”

Full Story: http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635153542,00.html

How did the LDS church get 446 Hofmann forgeries without buying them? If the modern prophets have discernment wouldn’t they know the forgery of something directly related to their doctrines? And . . . why do you put your faith in a fallible man in light of this?

Christ is your savior and judge. Not Smith, and not Hinckley, who are false and stumbling blocks for you. The Bible is infallible, not Smith or Hinckley. You are trusting your soul, and the souls of those you lead down this road, to false men.

~”If I understand what you are saying...”~

Your subsequent two paragraphs are a fair representation of what we believe, as I understand the doctrine.

~”If I’m hearing you right, you are not 100% sure until you
take your last breath?”~

I suppose that’s technically true; Judas was one such example.

In practical reality, though, I think a person who has developed the faith is genuinely striving to obey usually is not going to change their mind and rebel and fall away from their faith. Still, they have their agency, and that decision is open to them. A few have made that decision.

~”And do you have to be married in the Temple and all that to spend eternity in the presence of God?”~

No. This goes a bit deeper into LDS doctrine, which I’m happy to go into with you if you are interested; but, put simply, the only ordinances required to return to live with God are baptism and the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. These must be done through the actual authority of God, which we believe has been restored in the Priesthood of the LDS Church.

Nope. It’s blasphemous when the bible says that Christ judges to say that Smith judges. Do you think or do you just write?

Are you not the historian?

Get with the program there are different Judges for various events!

They are talked about in the Bible!

You still are refusing to address the fact that received revelation does not speak in terms of the language of a fortune teller!

You are listening to the worng phone line!:)

I appreciate your kind words, AMPU. I like my hot chocolate like I like my women - sweet and conducive to weight gain.

I do think, though, that the majority of us LDS FReepers are learning to become less antagonizing. It’s a process; and I imagine it’ll take time to change your perceptions. This is, of course, a natural and deserved consequence of our (speaking generally) past poor behavior.

I’m pleased that we’ve made so much progress in this aspect. I hope we can continue to encourage each other.

Resty, if a forger can fool them so well, what’s to keep Satan from fooling them?... The obvious is they are not being informed of error or protected from being fool.

___________________________________________________________

Revelations 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

To the extent that Smith added to the story of judgement in Revelation, he violated this and cursed himself and any of his followers that do not escape.

OK. If your prophets can be suckered about sacred writings by your prior prophets of the church, and that doesn’t make you think, then don’t think.

When I was young (ages ago) we would say ‘gremlins from the Kremlin did it’ if a glitch happened in an electronic or chemical test.

Greg, in the context of history, the verse you cite clearly refers to the book of Revelation itself, and not to the Bible as a whole - which didn’t even exist at the time.
