House votes to ban aid to Saudi Arabia

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Friday to prohibit any aid to Saudi Arabia as lawmakers accused the close ally of religious intolerance and bankrolling terrorist organizations.

The prohibition, reflecting persistent tensions with the kingdom after the September 11 attacks on the United States in 2001, was attached to a foreign aid funding bill for next year that has not yet been debated by the Senate.

It also faces a veto threat from the White House because of an unrelated provision.

A spokesman for the Saudi embassy in Washington declined to comment on the legislation.

In the past three years, Congress has passed bills to stop the relatively small amount of U.S. aid to Saudi Arabia, only to see the Bush administration circumvent the prohibitions.

First

Impeach Bush

Second

Impeach all the Republicans who voted for this

Third

Throw the rest out and start all over. We live in the most screwed up nation. Why are we sending AID to S. Arabia in the first place?

Sad sad and pathetic. President Bush will veto this? WHAT A JERK. Sell us out to the Mexicans and NOW to Arabia!

Wow what else can he do to lower his approval rating?

"Its payment for military bases, get real people."

Sure, like we need to give them money for ANYTHING, especially we already protect their Mohammadan butts from a Shia invasion. Perhaps they can protect themselves with all the oil money, and the billions of dollars of millitary equipment we GIVE them.

Yet, they turn around and promote Wahabbi fundamentalist Islam which is the largest (but not the only) and most well funded legs of Islamic terrorism.

It might be worth it if we were serious about putting an end to the Iranian (shia) rise to regional power- the next Persian empire- which WILL put an end to the Wahabbi's, and pretty much all other opposition south of the Euphrates, and becoming a very serious, and perhaps unstoppable regional power.

say goodbye to all Western influence in the ME and perhaps Europe as well. It's a very real possiblity, one which Putin, (and some other greedy Europeon governments as well) are involved in.

I wonder what the “unrelated provision” is? I didn’t see it mentioned in the article or posts. I’m probably too dumb to understand the entire bill, so can someone find it in “laymen’s terms”? It might be good to know before we start calling for impeachments.

Democrats Pass Provision for Contraceptives in House Foreign Aid Bill

House Democrats narrowly passed a measure yesterday to provide contraceptives to overseas organizations that had been banned from receiving foreign aid because they provided or promoted abortion.

The amendment to an important antiabortion measure in the House foreign aid spending bill was a rebuke to President Bush, who has strictly opposed providing any assistance to groups that promote abortion. The Reagan-era measure, known as the Mexico City policy, was fiercely protected by Bush, who has issued two veto threats over the foreign aid bill should Democrats attempt to alter any of the antiabortion measures it contains.

If you are correct, what does everyone think now? Still want to impeach?

Is it strange that Reuters would omit this little tidbit and just call it an "unrelated provision"?

So, just so I'm clear on what you're saying, President Bush is going to veto a bill that along with cutting aid to Saudi Arabia, provides contraceptives to overseas organizations, right? I seem to remember part of this original problem dealt with clinics overseas that promoted abortion as well.

That’s a very good question, but the answer is quite easily found when you realize that the WTO is infested with Muzzies from Opec nations. Like Saddam, it isn’t hard for them to stuff the pockets of greedy liberals at club UN.

Huh? What the heck do they need aid for? Unless were are sending “aid” to “moderate groups” within Saudi Arabia.

Let’s cut off Jordan, Egypt and the so-called Palestinians while we are at it.

Ungrateful bunch of neandrathals.

“In the last six years, 52 nations have bought $7 billion worth of our gold, and all 52 are receiving foreign aid from this country.” - Ronald Reagan, A Time for Choosing speech.

This has been going on a long time. They should all be cut off.
