Cafe standards greatly effect US Auto makers as the US Auto makers are successful with larger vehicles SUVs, Trucks, etc. Let Americans buy what they wish without the market distortions of Cafe.

U.S. automakers can make fuel efficient cars that could sell without the massive discounts the dealers are offering here. If they can't....it is time for them to be replaced with someone that can.

But yes, I think hybrid subsidies are a bit of a waste when there are such great low-sulfur diesel alternatives available that get better mileage and run on the much more eco-friendly biodiesel. Detroit could make them, of course.
