House Democrats Denounce Cheney's National Security Exemption

Friday , June 22, 2007

AP

WASHINGTON — House Democrats on Thursday denounced Vice President Dick Cheney's idea of abolishing a government office charged with safeguarding national security information — and criticized him for refusing to cooperate with the agency.

Cheney's office — over the objections of the National Archives — has exempted itself from a presidential executive order that seeks to protect national security information generated by the government, according to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Under the order, executive branch offices are required to give the Information Security Oversight Office at the archives data on how much material it has classified and declassified.

Cheney's office provided the information in 2001 and 2002, then stopped. Henry Waxman, chairman of the committee, said Cheney's office claims it need not comply with the executive order because it is not an "entity within the executive branch."

Who remembers that particular Twilight Zone episode with the "pig man"?

The man needs to do something about his appearance. It's hard to get past it.

Yeah, but he's a POSTER-CHILD for DU'ers !

A typical Liberal prototype, too.

I’m curious as to why you think VP Cheney is a “National disgrace”. I’m not arguing about it, just curious to learn if you see something I don’t see.

Huh? Cheney is right! His office is not an "entity within the executive branch"; it's one of the fundamental offices of the executive branch. The order was intended to control the various agencies within the executive, not the main officers of the executive.

Someone please tell the ‘RATS like Waxfong that the day they hold detailed public hearings on all aspects of the Sandy Burglar fiasco is the day everyone else will give a ‘RAT’s ass what Waxfong thinks about this.

"Your decision to except your office from the president's order is problematic because it could place national security secrets at risk," Waxman wrote in a letter to Cheney on Thursday.

The sheer chutzpah and raving hypocrisy of these vicious jackals is staggering. After all that the 'RATs do to allow "national security secrets at risk" from 'RAT Congresscritters and staffers, leaks to journalists, Sandy Burglar, etc. etc. they want anyone to believe they are sincerely concerned about protecting national security secrets in the VP's office? This does not pass the ROFLAMO test.

Cheney claims they’re within the law so let the courts decide. It will only take 2 years to get to the USSC. Waxman is just using this non-issue as a political football just like they did with the AG’s office.

"it's one of the fundamental offices of the executive branch"

I would also observe that as president of the Senate it's not part of the executive branch.
