“For the automakers that still waver on increasing fuel efficiency, I say this: Don’t fight this change, embrace it. Embrace this opportunity to build the high-performance, high-efficiency cars and trucks that Americans want to buy and drive…”

“We put the common good over corporate greed …”

Well, bucko, which is it? You want the auto companies to be greedy or not?

The key thing here is: At heart, all liberals (and I mean ALL of them) are marxists and socialists. Class warfare and redistribution of wealth are tenets of their religion.

They cannot often tell the American people what they REALLY think, but sometimes it gets out.

If you ever read Walter Cronkite's famous speech in 1999 at the UN, it is no wonder it did not get a lot of air time. Most Americans have no idea whatsoever about Cronkite, how he really feels about this. But since he is a liberal God, and they flock to him and trip over themselves to pay homage to him (including the Clintons, who chummed around with him every time they visited Martha's Vineyard) you can be certain that most of them feel this way as well.

Read This:

Walter Cronkite's Speech to the UN regarding American Sovereignty

...and weep!

Allow me to translate: Prepare for your taxes to go up and to be screwed in countless other ways, some of which we haven’t even figured out yet, but oh, what the heck.

I read that speech a number of years ago. Leftists are increasingly open about their support for coercive measures in imposing their Utopian one-world government vision. Their agenda, as expressed in current writings freely available through the Internet includes the stifling of (conservative) dissent, the end of national borders, and the nationalization of industry and property. What does that sound like? Hello, Communism, 21st Century-style.

"“The next part of our bill reduces crude oil consumption by more than 10 percent over the next 15 years by producing more renewable fuels right here on American farms, fields and in our forests – which will create tens of thousands of new American jobs."

Corn is going to be a gold mine for farmers. Subsidies to pay for feeding their cattle for starters. Milk will cost a lot more when dairy farmers pay more. Meat will cost more - Bread will cost more - and on and on!!

It's amazing how many foods have corn in them!! There is a book that just came out about this - wish I could remember the name of it.

This bill is going to cost the taxpayers big $$$$$$.

The cost of what they want to do with this should be researched and a full report made public so that people understand how fools can pass laws without a clue about the outcome.

I haven't read the bill, so could someone tell me how many more refineries are authorized, how many nuclear power plants, how much oil exploration, and how much new land open for drilling?

I'm sure they wouldn't leave out these important elements.

Embrace this opportunity to build the high-performance, high-efficiency cars and trucks that Americans want to buy and drive

Hey Reid! If we wanted those kinds of cars, we'd be BUYING THEM!

Good grief.... this makes me angrier than practically anything.... except, maybe immigration. If you want to use less foreign oil, put IMPORT TARRIFS on oil. But, no... you don't have the balls to do that. Then, people would actually be able to SEE the tax you're putting on them. This way, everyone thinks you're just waving a magic wand, and granting all of us better gas mileage. What a joke.

Have you seem the cars they drive in Europe? Do you really want to run into a deer in a SMART car? And, this travesty FORCES 50% of cars to run on E85 by 2020. Ethanol LOWERS mileage further... so, the cars will have to be even smaller.

Ethanol is the WORST idea since.... hmnn... well, I guess EVER.

It COST more energy than it SAVES!!! Let that sink in, will ya?

The only way ethanol makes ANY sense, is if you buy into the perverted view that we can "save the planet" by burning renewable fuels instead of fossil fuels. As if, carbons from below ground are worse than carbons from plants.

BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY!

...but it is a critical step in the right direction that will save us up to 1 billion gallons of gasoline every day

Ummmm, could someone tell the Senator that we only use slightly less than 500 Million Barrels a day....(139.9 B, in CY2005)

Or did he mean that we will become Net Producers....?

The next part of our bill reduces crude oil consumption by more than 10 percent

Wanna bet there's a BIG loophole for buying carbon credits so Al Gore and friends can continue to live the lifestyle of which they have grown accostumed
