"President George W Bush is MORE conservative than President Ronald Reagan — and that’s a FACT!"

That is your opinion, DrDeb...and not a fact. How do you think President Regan would have handled the immigration issue? President Bush is strong when it comes to the WOT. And when it comes to immigration, he is just another liberal shrew, it is a contradiction, IMO...I just don't get the way he thinks about this and never will... Makes me angry that I supported him with my heart and soul..

Please tell me why you think President Bush is more Conservative than President Regan. Thanks

Interesting, I don't think Reagan would have been much different than GWB on immigration.

The WOT, Reagan recognized evil, and he dealt with it. Islamists are fortunate Reagan isn't in the White House today.

Um, we don’t have to guess what Reagan would have done; we KNOW what he did do . . . In 1986, he ENTHUSIASTICALLY campaigned for and signed an authentic AMNESTY BILL! . . . AGAIN, I deal in facts and the facts indicate that on every issue/measure Bush is more conservative than Reagan.

REALITY CHECK:

Per Gallup, President Reagan experienced sub-par job approval ratings (30s/40s) for much of his presidency.

In fact, by 1987, 60% of Republicans/conservatives indicated that they DEFINITELY wanted a new direction and, even if it were possible, would NOT vote for President Reagan again!

By 1993, 61% of Americans considered Reagan’s economic policies a FAILURE (Gallup)!

Yet at his funeral, President Reagan was lauded by Republicans and Democrats alike and is now considered one of the greatest presidents of all time! . . . I predict the same result for President George W Bush!

For more insight (and several REALITY CHECKS), please read the following editorial from COMMENTARY magazine:

IS CONSERVATISM FINISHED?
By Wilfred M. McClay

“. . . We also forget that the Reagan administration itself, far from being happily unified, was driven by internal battles between “pragmatists” and “ideologues,” conflicts that prefigured many of the policy battles of the present. And we forget that, outside the administration, REAGAN GOT PLENTY OF GRIEF FROM HIS OWN RIGHT AS WELL.”

History Lesson:

The 1986 amnesty signed by President Reagan allowed permanent residence for anyone present in the country within certain dates. That law wiped the slate clean for illegals but failed to provide any new mechanisms for individuals to enter and work legally, thus ensuring another buildup of the illegal population.

However, that does not mean that I didn't respect the man or appreciate his accomplishments on other issues. I personally have been shocked at the change in FR recently. It has gotten to the point where no one can disagree with anyone without being called names or accused of being a WH plant, which is childish. Every thread has been highjacked or spammed with immigration rhetoric, no matter what the topic. What DrDeb says is right, some on here are so intense over the immigration issue that they have lost sight of the big picture and sometimes their senses. That makes us no better than DU with their BDS.
