Duke deal shields faculty

DURHAM - Duke University’s settlement with exonerated lacrosse players gives legal protection to faculty members, some of whom have been under siege for speaking out in the wake of the gang-rape allegations.

Thanks, that’s perfect. What Duke thereby did, however, is reprehensible. (Well, I’m saying so because I’m assuming Duke will take NO internal action WHATSOEVER against any of “the 88” — not, for example, requiring them to kick in any money, much less strip them of tenure and/or fire them.

My sis was Duke ‘88 and this makes it very hard for me to cheer for Duke. Had the university settled for itself only, and not covered the butts of the 88 without cost to the latter, I’d feel differently. So unjust.
