Worse fools are those in authority who pretend nothing is going wrong after hitting an iceberg.

Better spent is the time and energy in making sure such scenarios do not happen.Having more supplies,more lifeboats,not steering full speed into dangerous waters,etc.I say that all the time spent in college debating lifeboat ethics would better have been used imparting real-world knowledge of economics and the effects of taxation on production and freedom.

I certainly agree with you there...but unfortunately after the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan and then the collapse of the Soviet Union, we got busy spending that 'peace dividend' and ignored all the Islamist writing on the walls.
