Mr. Lamb's definition of when is a tax not a tax. If you pay it, it's because you choose to. You can cancel your cable any time you like...
To: vpintheak
they can’t show everything
it sounds like they would have been showing a video of a video
savage is a moron anyway

savage’s audience probably isn’t full of well reasoned intellectuals
I would have done the same thing-—savage and his fans who wrote that kind of vitriol deserve it

I generally only watch what makes it on www.c-span.org and only those industries and areas that interest me...and I can only recall them showing short video clips but never a full video...and the video doesn't show up well. I think most of the programs they show (not done on a set) just aren't set up to do that sort of thing.

"We are not a taxpayer organization," said Lamb. "We have told our audience that many, many times. We get no federal funds, state funds, local funds. We get our money from you. You give us a nickel a month when you pay your bills, and that's how we operate here. Which bills would that be? Property tax, DMV licensing, Carbon credits or Sales Tax; which bill does his left leaning org get a chunk from me for?
He did get the better of Savage (now is that really hard) but they still tilt left big time. Just listen to the callers they let through.

So their funding only comes from the cable bill? What about satellite?

I’ve been waiting all morning for this thread to start on FR.
Savage has got testosterone. His actions may seem odd to those who lack it.

C-SPAN is a private, non-profit company, created in 1979 by the cable television industry as a public service. Our mission is to provide public access to the political process. C-SPAN receives no government funding; operations are funded by fees paid by cable and satellite affiliates who carry C-SPAN programming.

Gee, just like with Imus, which idiot populist to root for?
Lamb, who said in an interview that he decides to change is format during Clinton, because of all the “hate” coming from callers, and now allows conspirazoids and haters of the most vile against this Pres, and our military missions, on his "serious" nonpartisan (barf) channel.
And Savage, who encourages and openly praises conspiracies.

I am a longtime CSPAN fan, but this was pretty inexcusable censorship. Censorship can only be imposed by the government, not a private industry organization.

Actually Mr. Lamb is correct. CSPAN is a program service delivered to cable operators and DBS services..The .05 is a per subscriber fee paid by all that purchse either of these services..CSPAN is totally funded by this fee. To say its a tax would be like saying that the fees for ESPN or FOX news is a tax..We have plenty of taxes but CSPAN is not one of them.
To: Roberts
I am a huge Savageaholic, but he is off base here. CSPAN just elected to not run a taped speech he prepared - running a room full of people watching a video is about as boring as it gets. I would have made the same call.

Cable and DBS are not required to carry C-Span but most of them choose to do so..

"Savage can get a bit manic, and I think he owes Brian Lamb an apology."
I agree. I can only take small doses of Savage, due to his huge overblown ego. I like what he has to say when it comes to border and security issues, but most of what he has to say is maniacal non-stop boasting. I can't imagine any other major talk show host (Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham, Medved, Regean ect) going on the attack like this because C-Span did not cover their video taped acceptance speech. Savage has serious self esteem issues and if he could control that part of his personality he could be great. He should show a little class and brush this off.

Censorship can only be imposed by the government, not a private industry organization. Is that a joke? Are you saying TV networks can't censor? What do you call it when CBS re-aired the 9/11 Concerts and replaced the boos for Hillary with (sound effect) cheers? The nets most certainly can censor, and do. With C-Span it is much worse. This network bills itself as non-partisan and objective. If so, then they violate their own mandate via censorship.

I thought it was interesting that this Buffoon actually read a letter citing him as a D!CKHEAD..... actually agree with this..... :)....

I'm no defender of Savage but to call Mr. Lamb's actions "courageous" is simply ridiculus. What's courageous about selecting the most absurd emails he has received and poking holes in them?
Doesn't Hannity do this every freakin' day?
Doesn't O'Rielly do this as well?
And as far as their funding goes; because they receive the money directly via cable and satellite bills (as mandated by the feds) and not directly from the feds we're not paying their bills? A difference only a lib could love.
I've got no dog in this fight but praising C-Span on this whole thing is pointless.
