Bioethics: President Bush's veto of expanded funding of embryonic stem cell research will be condemned. But while others make it a campaign issue, Bush embraces research that gives the sick and disabled genuine hope.

Despite the portrayal in the media and Democratic Party of Republicans as the only ones standing in the way of miracle cures from embryonic stem cell research, it is Democrats who are wearing ideological blinders and ignoring scientific facts.

Bush's second veto of expanded federal funding of embryonic stem cell research is grounded, yes, in his moral belief that it's wrong to destroy some human lives to save others. But it's also based recent stunning discoveries using non-embryonic stem cells that may make the use of embryos in such research unnecessary.

I am sick of this debate. Not for moral reasons, but for constitutional ones. The federal govenment should not be paying for ANY research with my tax dollars.

The Democrat’s support of embryonic stem cell research comes primarily from the NARAL gang and the abortion mill industry. If research can uncover some “miracle” cure from embryonic stem cells, it will be a seal of protection against anti-abortion legislation.

You’ve put it well! If this research is so promising and on the brink of making medical history then there should be no shortage of sources of venture capital anxious to get in on the action. The great thing about capitalism is that it weeds out the weaker ideas pretty quickly unless someone comes along and convinces lawmakers to fund them.

There would be no budget deficit if government would undertake only those tasks that are rightly theirs by constitutional authority.

I’ll be if we limite government to its constitutionally approved duties out federal budget would less than half of what it is now!
