I read the Statesman-Urinal article with the interview of the would be rescuer. It’s sad that other witnesses and passers by did not help in the effort.

A horrible way to die, and it seems (making the assumption he was driving one) too many have been in Crown Vics, burning to death in otherwise survivable crashes.

It seems to me engine fluids wouldn’t be enough to light up a car so quickly after a frontal crash, but perhaps a fuel pump that should have shut off didn’t.

Hopefully the right people will inspect this car and find the cause of the fire, so designs can be improved and other lives can be saved.

You raise a good point. I wonder if there is anyone out here in the FReeRepublic who can find out whether there is a design problem with the fuel/impact cutoff switch (whatever it's called).

Might I suggest a letter to OSP with a cc to the paper to see if that angle is covered?
