This is a perfect example of "political correctness" taken to the extreme. I believe it is why we all think there just might be an immigration problem. I grew up and worked in the Los angeles area. In 1978 was the officer assigned/compelled to publish the infamous "Special Order #40, which told the Los Angeles Police that "Alien status in itself is not a matter for police action." This order opened the door to themassive invasion of illegals that has occurred.

Here is the letter I wrote to the President:

May 31, 2007

The President The White House Washington DC 20005 Dear Mr. President:

Having been involved in immigration issues for more than thirty years, I feel compelled to tell you the story of why I came to the conclusion I have reached regarding this issue.

I was born in the State of Ohio in 1946 shortly after my father returned from World War II. The family moved to Burbank, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, and settled into the “good life” in the San Fernando Valley. The children grew up color-blind and without any prejudices as far as I know. We were permitted to play with the black children who lived down the street until they moved away after some bigot burned a cross on the lawn of their house. My family was outraged that such a thing would happen.

Later, I joined the Los Angeles Police Department. While employed there, I was tasked with publishing the “Special Order” that stated “Alien status in itself is not a matter for police action.” The order was published in 1978, and what followed was a virtual tidal wave of undocumented (illegal) aliens. For you see, the order was “code” for a policy established by the well-known and liberal Steven Reinhardt, (now 9th circuit court justice) who as you must be aware is married to Ramona Ripston, the head of the ACLU in southern California.

Previously, officers in law enforcement agencies across the states bordering Mexico acted as de facto border patrol agents, catching undocumented aliens and turning them over to the Immigration & Naturalization Service. This practice had the practical effect of suppressing the numbers of illegal border-crossers.

Since 1978, the problem has become a nightmare for law enforcement. Lawful arrests of aliens are frequently not prosecuted, murder, rape, robberies and other violent crimes as well as property crimes have ballooned, well, you know…

So, now we are faced with a genuine crisis that can only be ignored at the risk of our sovereignty and we have a senate bill that offers a virtual amnesty if not an articulated one. The security of our borders cannot be delayed, or explained in terms of “We’ll get to it as soon as we get this registration part done.”

You have accused us, your “base” of losing its “great capacity to absorb newcomers…” Mr. President, we’ve absorbed more than 12 million “new comers” whose first act was to violate our laws and sovereignty and don’t want to assimilate!

We are not hate-filled bigots; we are the people who believe in the Rule of Law. We are the people who pay our taxes, go to church, work hard, vote, and just want those people who come to America to do the same. Is that too much to ask?

Sincerely,

Great letter. I hope someone is reading them. I’m on a 3:3:3 schedule: 3 faxes, 3 phone calls, 3 letters, per day — at least until this fiasco is over.
