Doug Duchardt, vice president of development for Hendrick, called the modifications an honest mistake. ``We've been evolving and this was just the latest evolution of what we've been done,'' he said. ``Our understanding is that our cars fit the templates but that they were outside of what they would like to see within the templates.''

From the AP story...GIVE ME A BREAK!! What "THEY" want to see in the template??? So they have a template given to the crews to build against, and then they build to it, but it's not what they want to see??? I give up...

Their COT template contraption has claws to measure various points on the car which both cars met. However, in between the claws somehow didn’t.

I just mentioned to someone else on another site that I wish Nascar would take their COT and stick it somewhere. :)

Other people are suggesting Nascar build the body and hand them out like they do the plates at the RP tracks. LOL and then the sport will be getting about the same viewer numbers as roller derby.
