COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) -- South Carolina Treasurer Thomas Ravenel, a former real estate developer who became a rising political star after his election last year, was indicted Tuesday on federal cocaine charges.
Ravenel is also the state chairman for former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign.
Ravenel has stepped down from his volunteer responsibilities with the campaign, according to a statement released by Mark Campbell, Giuliani's political director.
Campbell said the campaign has no information about the accusations pending against Ravenel.
The millionaire is accused of buying less than 500 grams of the drug to share with other people in late 2005, U.S. Attorney Reggie Lloyd said.
Ravenel, 44, is charged with distribution of cocaine, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Hmmmm....he either has a lot of druggie friends, or his friends are real druggies. Either that, or he was planning on visiting the Clintons.

Does this guy have a law degree? For whatever reason it seems that a saying “lawyer” and “cocaine user” are redundant nowadays. BTW, that includes the Clintons.

500 grams???
This was supposed to be the go-to guy to run against Grahamnesty. If we don’t get someone in the primary against him, he’s gonna lose to the Dem. :(
To: Islander7
Good, I hope it damages his campaigne as much as possible. Why would any conservative give a second glance as at a leftist war hawk? I wonder how Hannity's going to spin this tomorrow...
Can we please stop looking at these top three or four media-creation candidates for true Reagan/Goldwater conservatism? It's not happening.

LOL! Man those FBI files are just the gift that keeps on giving! I hope SC can find SOMEONE clean enough to run against Grahamnesty.

It’s water under the bridge now, but Ravenel made a promise during his campaign to serve his complete term as State Treasurer. This precluded him from running against Pandsey.
You’re right though. We need to come up with a solid conservative to run against Grahamnesty or the Dem will win.

I am not and have not been a Rudy supporter, but this has to take the cake. Guiliani is a former federal prosecutor, how in heavens name could he let something like this slip through when picking a state chairman, volunteer or not????? Its been an ongoing investigation for nearly 2 years. Yeah, I'm sure Rudy spent months interviewing and checking candidates for this position because it was so much more important than that of the other 49 State chairmen. You know, with a State population of 4 million, Rudy is more preoccupied with winning South Carolina than the other 296 million Americans. /s

Moral of the story: Rudy will drive you to drugs. :)
You seem like a good person to ask: what drives people to libel?

I’m not a Rudy Julie Annie supporter but to try and tie this incident around his neck is a stretch.

Our drug laws are insane. This is hilarious though. Between this, the mobbed-up Police Commisioner, the former pedophile Priest, and Judy Rudy who got her start demonstrating medical supplies on dogs, he’s looking great!

I think I have to agree. We have a “not so unique” Bushbot-Rutard combo here.

She said
"
Just dont get in their way of slamming Rudy. If you do, theyll slam YOU, too."
And you responded
"Welcome to FR. Who wrote your profile page? You might want to ask them to correct some of those typos. Liberal should not be spelled c-o-n-s-e-r-v-a-t-i-v-e."
Hmm. I'm sure I'll get slammed for this as well (it seems to be your MO) but since I consider myself to be a conservative in the technical sense, not the fanboy sense, I cannot see how you can identify someone as politically liberal based upon these statements (and the GP statement). Perhaps that is because you call someone a 'liberal' when you want to squelch discussion that you oppose not purely on factual grounds. It is apparent that you do not like Rudy. It is not apparent that the parent or GP post supported Rudy or, more importantly, liberal causes. Your 'newbie' harassment statement is particularly vile. It only makes people think that "FR eats their young."

I am familiar with that. What is your point? Did I claim that I supported Guiliani? Explain yourself.

“It is apparent that you do not like Rudy.”
If you can’t understand what you wrote, maybe you should try reading it again. Good luck.
