False claim gets man 15 months

He told FEMA he lived in N.O. in '05

By Bruce Hamilton

A Covington man will spend 15 months in federal prison for taking $6,791 in Federal Emergency Management Agency aid after falsely claiming he was living in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck.

The address Kenneth T. Earlycutt gave FEMA was in a public housing development, but the corresponding building had been razed long before the hurricane hit. U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk sentenced him Thursday, and he will be in custody today when he turns 26.

Earlycutt pleaded guilty as charged March 8 to making false material statements to the United States. He had claimed he was living in the former Magnolia housing complex on Aug. 29, 2005, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

Magnolia, later named the C.J. Peete housing complex, was a sprawling 1940s-era compound that once occupied several blocks in Central City. The crumbling complex is slated for demolition an redevelopment.

When Earlycutt applied by telephone for aid Sept. 16, 2005, he claimed he had been living at 2904 Washington Ave., according to authorities. He later signed official documents attesting that the information he gave was true.

But on April 6, 2006, the New Orleans division of the FBI got a tip about Earlycutt's fraud. When agents investigated, they found the address corresponded to an empty field surrounded by a chain-link fence. A local Housing and Urban Development official verified the building had been torn down long before.

At that time, Earlycutt was living rent-free at 119 St. Thomas Way in Covington, according to the federal affidavit.

So the freeloader gets to live free for another fifteen months, which I guess will actually be less than three, and will not have to pay back a dime?

Why isn’t Crystal Gail Mangum (the false accuser in the Duke University “rape” case) being prosecuted?

Someone with Google Earth could sit and check dozens of these per hour. If nothing is sitting on the site, go have somebody pay a visit to confirm.

The article goes on to say that he was ordered to pay restitution to FEMA.

I dunno... the government takes money from people who earn it, and doles it out to people who didn’t earn it. I am really not all that interested in which people who didn’t earn the money get it. Might as well be this guy.

I think Crystal Gail Mangum isn’t being prosecuted yet because she is a loony tune. From what I’ve seen and read it sounds like she is delusional and believes her own story. Thats what I’ve heard anyway.
