Trent Lott, nominal Republican and former Senate Majority Leader - who showed himself a faux conservative during the Clinton Administration - is starting to lash out at we troublemakers who oppose this amnesty bill and (egad!) listen to talk radio. He told the New York Times:
Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.
Lott showed himself a true elitist with this quote in the Washington Post:
Im sure senators on both sides of the aisle are being pounded by these talk-radio people who dont even know whats in the bill, Lott said. He added that the leadership will have to be prepared to do what needs to be done.
In other words, the elites in the Senate will ignore what we low lifes want and do the bidding of the President and illegal immigration lobby (including the Democrats). (Is it completely lost on the GOP that turning a bunch of criminals into citizens/voters benefits only the Democrats?)
He also, according to the Times, doesnt seem to care for the Senators who are new enough to actually listen to their constituents:
At some point, Mr. Lott said, Senate Republican leaders may try to rein in younger guys who are huffing and puffing against the bill.
The Times says Lott, earlier identified as on the fence (his usual position anyway), now supports the amnesty legislation.
At least one political analyst thinks it is the President who should keep quiet if GOP Senators want to pass this bill:
Matthew A. Towery, a political analyst in Atlanta who was once a campaign chairman for Newt Gingrich and is now chief executive of a polling firm, Insider Advantage, said: Having George W. Bush come out and speak in favor of the immigration bill does not do any good for Republican senators. He just irritates the conservative base of the Republican Party, which has abandoned him on this issue.
Lotts collaboration with liberal Democrats is nothing new. He has long been a disgrace to the GOP and Mississippi (and I am sad to see my former state continuing to elect him by wide margins). But at least Lotts insults show that the heat is still on, to the extent that the snake oil salesmen behind this bill fill the need to beat up on you and me.
There is no doubt that a lot of those in Washington share Lotts disdain for the views of the American public. Perhaps Senators Cornyn and Hutchison feel the same way. Usually, though, even the most entrenched politician isnt stupid enough to actually say it (or dumb enough to be convinced by his handlers to do their dirty work).
The arrogance of these unprincipled phonies is breathtaking.
Lets stay under their skin, shall we?
Trent Lott should go join Hugo Chavez. Seems they have a lot in common.
Dear Mr. Vacant:
Don’t pick a fight with people who buy electrons by the megawatt.
Trent Lott should shut his pie hole.
“Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.
Actually I think it’s more the blogs and forums,
But Lott is an old-fashioned guy, those he is an old fashioned crook.
The demonizing of talk radio is a good strategy though. It is a comforting red herring for lefties not to take a look at the bill, a tried, tested and true Rovian manipulation of liberal attention spans.
Talk radio to Lott: Shut up
We all need to be worried about a politician who decides he needs to, “do something,” about a platform of free speech. Maybe Mr. Lott liked it better when there were three tee vee stations?
Trent Lott is a politian.
Shame. He coulda been a man.
That must mean those in the Senate who haven't spent enough time to have been corrupted fully.
Lott is a shameless person. I think he may want this bill because there is a slavemanster mentality in him.
The Same to You LOTT!
Think about it. Mexico is one of the richest countries in the world as far as unharvested natural resources are concerned. Oil, Gold, Lime, fertile farmland.... the list goes on and on and think about this... We won't be so Dependant on OPEC oil any longer will we?
Sheeeeez.... what other possible reason could Bush and his allies have for being this friggin stupid? Aside from the fact that he is a Globalist and daddy is a trilateralist?
Just a thought.
Politicians who have accepted their place as “a ruling class” instead of Public SERVANTS are the problem. When do we voters do something about that?
I am deeply ashamed that he is from my home state. He has been in DC way too long and needs to go back to grassroots America for a while.
Translation:
"The n***ers are getting uppity."
Count me in, soon-to-be-exsenator Lott, count me in.
"We have to deal with that problem."
Yes, WE THE PEOPLE do have a problem we have to deal with...

How long will this widespread clarity last?
Sounds like The Godfather.
