President Bush yesterday told Hispanics to step into the middle of the immigration debate and make sure senators who have been bombarded with calls from opponents also hear from those who support the bill.
"There's a lot of emotion on this issue, and it makes sense to have people from around the country come and sit down with members of Congress to talk rationally about the issue," he told those attending the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington yesterday.
He was speaking a day after the bill, which collapsed last week, was revived by the top Democrat and Republican in the Senate.
Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, agreed to put the bill back on the Senate's schedule next week, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, agreed to limit the number of amendments Republicans would offer.
But roadblocks are already popping up.
Sen. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican, said he will block any attempt to send the bill to an eventual House-Senate conference, complicating the usual path a bill takes to reach the president's desk.

Our Constitution protects the rights of individuals, not groups. All citizens, regardless of race or ethnic origin, have an equal right to be heard.
Considering people as nothing more than a member of an ethnic group is what liberals do, not conservatives. When do the American people get heard on this bill?
A finer example of Bizzaro World never existed. Blackbird.

Or do you not see it as a problem?

And we get stuck paying higher taxes for them and their ‘extended’ families. I keept calling Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker’s office. I’ve inquired of my County Commissioner and mayor about the impact this will have on our property taxes, schools and our Regional Medical Center here in Memphis..which is about to go under as it is.
nice blog Lew!
Only citizen hispanics or those here legally should be heard from on this issue. Any other hispanics who are here are here illegally and don't have a right to participate in our politics or to, frankly, have any opinion on the matter.
Is that Calderon?
ROFL!
