Conservative bloggers in full revolt over immigration
cnn ^ | 6-15-07

Different conservative blogs have different pet issues -- government transparency, federal judges, Fred Thompson, to name a few.

But no issue in recent memory has united conservative bloggers like the debate over immigration. Their frustration has culminated in a full-scale revolt against the Bush administration and a Senate bill that activists say does little to solve the country's border security problems.

President Bush's pledge to support $4.4 billion in additional border security funds has breathed new life into the bill, but the drumbeat against the legislation shows no signs of quieting. (Watch how senators revived the immigration bill )

It's increasingly clear from Web postings and interviews with top conservative bloggers that the immigration bill has done serious damage to the president's credibility among the conservative netroots, the grassroots bloggers on the Web.

Erick Erickson, managing editor of the popular conservative blog RedState.com, says he receives between 800 and 900 e-mails a day from readers, most of whom are "enraged" by the White House's immigration efforts.

"Of all the issues the president has picked to make his hill to die on, he has picked the one that has divided his base," said Erickson, who lives in Macon, Georgia. "I am shocked by the anger and outrage out there ... You've got war against the president within the Republican party."

When details of an immigration compromise were announced this spring, conservative bloggers were immediately incensed. Michelle Malkin labeled it "a White House betrayal."

Another popular blogger, Hugh Hewitt, called the bill a "fiasco" and wrote: "this push for this bill is a disaster, Mr. President."

Bloggers: Secure the border first Conservative bloggers make various arguments against the bill. Some say the bill grants amnesty to illegal immigrants who have already broken the law.

Just to let you know:

I never voted for Bush. Frankly I think we need to improve on our primary process, so we pick better candiates.

‘Reading and comprehension skills’

“This is a joke right?”

No, Jorge. It’s not a joke. Keep reading that post and you might get it. Perseverance is the key.

Great point. Dingy could only get 38 senators to vote with him 51-38=13-1=12 dems are voting against. Why not go after the dirty dozen Democrats.

That's just the trigger, there have been dozens of such sellouts. We simply do not see any point in putting up with any of them anymore. They hate conservatism, fine, we will dispense with their services. The country needs conservatism and does not need them. It may take a cycle or two for the country to wake up to its need for conservatism again. But that's fine. We have the answers, and once in real need the country will come back and ask again for real leadership. Nobody needs rinos for anything.

Throw all the bastards out and start over...

Agreed, but we have to have a starting place. We need honest people to run for office, federal and state, and we need a government system which allows them to do the job with integrity.

The system itself encourages crooked behavior. I cite lobbyists, for one and greedy pork barrel spending to win approval of constituents.

An added thought: Many a decent, intelligent, patriotic American will not risk having any "misguided behavior" in their young life splashed all over the media, with, of course, the intention to smear and discredit them.

Well, go right ahead! When you get Hillary or Obama, I will have no pity for you! But for heaven’s sake, don’t speak in my name about it!

Amen! Let these clowns know that they’ll reap what they sow. Let them see what the left wing will do for them. Let’s see if the left wing will hear them or not!

Go ahead! But first before you impeach, don’t you have to have some (gulp) actual evidence to impeach? You know, evidence of a crime? Until you do, maybe you should just hold it, huh? You might get what you wish. You just never know.

Or, you might get more liberal Democrats! That’s right, more! Would that help? Would they do any more for you than GWB does? They would open the boarder with Mexico, just in time for elections. But hey, you’d be rid of GWB, of course! And wouldn’t that be exciting! They might actually help you too! They’d love it. They would relish the chance to get GWB out of the picture! They would reallllyyyy appreciate your help too. Wouldn’t that make your Bush-hating little heart go pitter-patter?

But there is just one little teensy problem, evidence! Yeah, evidence he committed a crime! But hey, cheer up, you’d get GWB out of your face! You’d enjoy Hilary and Bill, Obama and Edwards, wouldn’t you? They would make all your dreams come true!

You’d better have tons of it, (actual evidence) because I won’t bite. I won’t go along with it unless you do! And no, my friend, just merely hating him won’t do. Otherwise sorry, I’m not your sucker!

Bye!

The current illegals will take their AMNESTY, and then the jobs of American workers who earn more than minimum wage today and turn those jobs into minimum wage jobs. No need to offshore when you can reduce costs right where you are. The workers displaced will just go on welfare, since no one will hire them at their high salaries. First ratchet down in wages and standard of living for Americans.

Now the employers, who are always looking for the best deal with wages will just revert back to hiring off the books at sub minimum wage no taxes workers, just like today.

The net cost, the extra workers, will just head on over to the welfare roles, and on and on it goes. The border jumpers coming out of the swamp will always work for less than minimum wage and will never pay taxes.

An endless supply of border jumper illegals doing the jobs Americans won’t do, at the wages Americans won’t accept, insures a constant fixed low payroll cost for the employers.

Unless the borders are sealed before anything else, the cycle will continue indefinitely and the welfare pool of Democrat voters will expand at the same rate as the illegal border jumpers flow across the border.

Last on in the hammock has to pay ...

I’m beginning to think that the majority of the board have been covert DU operatives all along and are just now showing their true colors.

The theory is, Bush is doing this out of a sense of Noblesse oblige - A sense of social responsibility to the "poor immigrants" stemming from his great wealth and power.

It isn’t just bloggers. Everyday citizens are up in arms. 75% of us are against this bill. I’ve talked to ultraliberal coworkers who hate it, i’ve talked to moderates who hate it, and i’ve talked to a lot of conservatives who hate it. The only people who do seem to like it are the political elites and the Chamber of Commerce types who don’t want to pay American wages.

I firmly believe that the evil that has taken power over this nation wants riots. They are doing everything they can to undermine us. They want to be able to use the Patriot Act laws to crack down on the law abiding, legal citizens of this once great nation. I believe the United Nations will be called in to “help” if riots ever do break out. Say hello to our new one world government.

Everyday citizens are up in arms.

And I fear it's not going to matter. I'll continue to call, etc, but our politicians are above the law (ala drunk Teddy and Chappaquiddick) and are certainly better than us peons. /s

I remember when kalifornia citizens voted to no longer educate the children of illegals. The vote was done according to law. Then the kal legislature vetoed the vote. They basically told the voters to shove it.

Kal now is going bankrupt, in part because they are paying to educate illegals.

What we want is to expel every single invader from American soil. But if our reigning monarch and princes are having so much trouble with this bill, imagine how much trouble they would have with actually getting this third world infection out of America?

So, a Gore/Kerry supporter- welcome to your new world of a democrat majority. Gee, look how you have progressed conservatism (/sarc).

Oh, and thanks for your work for the enemy, oh for a few more people like this and our country will be secure.

Another words only conservative working to move the conservative agenda forward. We call, write, worry and do all in our power to fight the democrat and you - old wise one - join them to bring in a democrat majority.

Look - we don’t like this push on a bad immigration bill either but that does not mean we go ballistic and talk “impeachment”.

We make our views known, we do all we can to fight it and we try and discern what is really going on - why the rush to get an immigration bill through?

Why is he willing to accept one with major loopholes?

He has either gone crazy (and I would expect the people in the upper ranks of the administration to be aware of this and insure the country is protected from such) or, there is some major reason something has to be done now - not next year but now.

Maybe all the brilliant minds on FR spending their time one-upping the other on railroad schedules, prices of rails etc. might help more by delving into the reasons for this.

I’m beginning to wonder if there is some security risk (other than the normal risk we tout all along) that makes even an imperfect bill necessary.

Of course, the dems will use anything, anytime to push through their agenda of free votes - even stacking the needed bill with loopholes to all streams of new voters.

Well, he has to sign it off...

Or double the number of times he's failed to rubber stamp whatever nonsense Congress sends him.

He signed CFR saying that it was so grossly wrong he was sure SCOTUS would overturn it, didn't he?
