Goodness knows, we have excess military medical personnel out the wazoo, just sitting around with nothing but time on their hands.

It’s not like there’s a war on or anything. I mean, it’s not like we have actual military casualties or anything.

Some of you guys/gals here are aiding and abetting the enemy. Keep it up! Islamofascist terrorists and the Dumbocrats are lovin’ every minute of it!

Oh really? Would you mind explaining how ANYONE has been guilty of aiding and abetting the enemy? That's a serious charge!

I’d like to see you elaborate more completely . . . I mean, apart from your two instances involving water, ports, and ships, what else is there? LOL

Why doesn’t it visit Amertican ports and tend to all those American children without health insurance?

Hey, it can swing by here next week. I have to get some dental work done and would love to have it done for free - with my own tax money!!!

I'd say that some people's single-minded fixation on the serious issue of illegal immigration has clouded their judgement to the point where they no longer see this as a legitimate exercise of foreign policy. Let's take a dispassionate look at this (impossible for some in the current climate, I know).

Hugo Chavez is sending free oil to his Socialist comrades in the Northeast U.S., the Dems in Congress are doing everything in their power to ensure that Marxist rebels expand their grip on northern South America, and a counter-measure historically used to generate goodwill in the region is opposed by conservatives because they're mad about illegal immigration.

It's not the most direct connection, but I'd say that joining with the Dems in trying to circumvent U.S. foreign policy is "aiding and abetting."

I dealt with that . . . who is being pandered to here, and who wants to be pandered to? Let's say you prevail and the ship is not sent on its mission. Illegal immigration problem solved? Think for a minute.

I can only speak for myself, but I'd say it's a case of everyone getting their hands on my money but me. Out of control.

And I say this is a case where you should probably direct your attention to cases where your tax money is being wasted if you want to be taken seriously.

I think it is wonderful how the President built all those nice little homes, has been providing medical care and educational opportunities for the poor in Mississippi.. and any place in America where the people are willing to work but still live in bone crushing poverty. No wounded GI or disabled Vet would ever feel shortchanged sharing what services are available with Real Americans in need. What ever it takes Mr President were with you....

South America? Oh I thought you said the American South.

What is wrong with you people? It’s a simple, and relatively inexpensive, gesture of goodwill.

There is a growing consensus in the USA that conservatives simply suck - don’t help that consensus along.

And I would say that charity begins at home. That's my money dearest. It belongs to me to spend on myself, before spending it on someone from another country. You may give yours to them freely. Parlay.

shouldn’t he be sending this ship to long beach? The illegals have over run the ER’s to the point people can not get help in life and death situations.

This is an anti-Chavez thing more than anything else. Too bad it’ll do no good. Countries either like us or they don’t.

You're right. It's not even close. This is about Bush's liberal spending ways. A billion here, a billion there, 80 million to Hamas, 200 million to Egypt, a billion to Pakistan, etc. and we the tax payers pay for it all.

I think goodwill missions are a compassionate thing to do, no matter where in the world the need is; however, there is a limit to what we can and should do. The "flying hospital" through Pat Robertson's Ministry is one that I supported in the past because there is so much need around the world. For decades the US has been the first to give, the longest to give and the one who gives the most. Then American citizens take more from our own pockets to give to those in need.

There's no question that Americans are compassionate and very generous. Even after all of that, the whole world hates us! Why do you think that is?

As far as the immigration issue goes, you darn right we're mad, because they are trying to shove it down our throat. I never had any problems with any illegals, until the day they took to the streets to DEMAND MORE RIGHTS, while they waved Mexico's flag and carried signs telling us we stole their land and that we should go back to Europe. I lost all respect for their cause on that day.

Mine is going up at the end of the month by 24%. I only got three weeks notice...

I have only had mine two months, as I just went off COBRA and got this one to replace it with.

DOD assets, and in particular U.S. Navy ones, have been utilized to "show the flag" since time immemorial, and certainly since the brief period of time I subscribed to Proceedings in the early 80's. What's changed?

I'm not turning this into an illegal immigation issue. The amount of people on this very thread viewing this issue through the prism of illegal immigration is laughable.
