Being of McCoy lineage, and a resident of the county where this happened, I'm ready to defend this man. Like my 80 year old Mom (maiden name McCoy) said when I read this to her ...

"Only mistake Scotty Hatfield made was failing to shoot that rapist to kill . . . I'd have shot and killed him."

You know, there is a reason why we have trials. Forgive me for being so blunt, but daddys will always believe their little girls, and quite frankly in this day and age, I’m not so quick to believe children who’re inundated with the knowledge that you can get an adult in real trouble by crying molestation.

Sorry, send him to prison as an example to others who’d take the law into their own hands.

I think I’d have tried to shoot him eleven times, one for each year of the daughters age.

Ditty has to know he's a dead man in three years. He's part of the extended family. He won't be able to permanently disappear.

Someone bet against me on this: In about three years Hatfield will be out of prison and the first thing he'll do is kill Ditty.

We'll see the thread here on FR linked to this one sometime in 2010.

Sadly, this is how our Judicial system operates these days. I sometimes think there is a conspiracy to leave rapist and killers free to lower the population. It makes no sense for any rapist to ever walk free. The same for killers, often one in the same. What does justice mean if the Innocent aren’t protected from such horrific things. Why even have a Judicial System. Maybe we need to fire all those judges and go back to the vigilante “system” But I’m just a dummy that doesn’t get it, huh?

I respect his being a standup guy in taking responsibility in the aftermath - he must clank when he walks - but in light of his chosen defense, too bad he didn’t allow his lawyer to delay his trial until after the molestor’s case had been adjudicated.

With the molestor’s conviction, he *might* have gotten a jury nullification. A better chance at it, anyway.

I don’t blame this man for his actions a bit. This guy needed hanging if he raped this guys daughter.

Wish I'd been on the jury. It'd be hung or 'not guilty'.

“I done what I thought was right,” he said.

No regrets, admitted to everything and ready to accept whatever punishment comes his way. I can't help but admire this guy........

I'm just glad he didn't kill the kid because he's not the type of person I want to see behind bars for the rest of his life.
