1. Build the fence
2. Do not deport all existing illegals. This is neither practical nor in the best interest of our country.
3. Fix the migration system to allow enough aliens to come here to work in a timely way, before you go around fining anyone.
4. Increase border patrol - we must know that we are preventing dangerous aliens from coming over.
5. Do not give voting rights/citizenship to anyone here illegally until they earn those rights.

We need immigrants for our economy. Those who want to deport 12 million people need to get an economics book. Besides, it’s not going to happen, so forget it.

Everyone should also be aware and prepared to start paying a lot more for goods and services if illegals are stopped. The immigration system needs to be fixed. This is very difficult, though. Hey, look how well the new accelerated passport system is going.

Oh boy - this old line again. First of all, no one is talking about mass round ups of illegals. What is being advocated is cutting off the flow (sealing the border) and also inducing self-deportation by going after employers of illegals.

It is also not correct that we need immigrants for our economy. I am all for legal immigration and would like to see the process streamlined but they are not "needed" - they are a nice to have.

And for the line about "paying more" - we are already doing that - it's just in hidden fees. When an illegal's children attend public school that cost about $5000 per student per year. Where is that money coming from?

Where is the money coming from to pay for the increased prison costs? Where is the money coming from to pay for the medical care that is given to them but never paid for? Many hospitals have had to shut down their emergency rooms for this reason.

The list just goes on and on. How about all of the low skilled citizens that pushed out of jobs because of illegals? Illegals are a NET cost to this country.

*^*^*^*^*^

Now, I’m not sayin’ you’re not right, but this strikes me as the very same argument the “south” used in the slavery debate.

I agree that it is probably an unlikely scenario to deport millions of illegals, but I do agree with the poster who advocated immediately deporting illegals who come into contact with ANY US law official.
