San Diego Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter has wasted over $60 million dollars in taxpayer money, shoveling it to a political contributor through budget “earmarks”.

An “earmark” is money inserted in a bill by a single Congressman. No hearing. No oversight.

Hunter’s “earmark” went for research and development on a plane design which was unwanted by the Pentagon. A warplane unwanted by our warriors. Hunter has been throwing money at it for years. It has not flown successfully. It doesn’t work. (That’s probably why the Pentagon doesn’t want it).

So why has Hunter continued to throw our tax dollars into this plane design? Is he a visionary? Does he know more than the Pentagon experts?

Or was he unduly influenced by the $36,000 the design firm contributed to his account?

Voters will have to draw their own conclusions

The Congressman is reported to have vigorously defended his earmarking actions, saying in effect that the Pentagon is too conservative in design approval. Other sources argued that the plane in question was more in the nature of a “hobby” than a serious defense R and D project. A “hobby” funded by taxpayers.

Now that the Democrats are in control, this process of “earmarking” for hobbies will be stopped (at least for Republicans like Hunter).

Pissant, doesn't matter what you think.....if you go to the above link, you'll see the UCB is ranked for grad schools in the top 3 for engineering, computer sciences, math, chemistry, most social sciences etc....top 10 in most others...so you must have worked with the 3 morons that moved into your area.....I'm sure you will find a way to disparage the rankings...but they have been that way for awhile..... .....Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Cal and CIT are the top grad schools overall.....sorry to burst your bubble

If anything, this article illustrates why Ducan Hunter will be the ideal nominee in 2008. While the rest of the Republicans and Democrats are busy trying to extend social security to illegal aliens, Hunter is busy trying to beef up the military.

As far as the Pentagon, it’s a political machine.

.....haha.....oh I see....should I even try and argue with that logic....hell, I know you’ve been on here a long time but whether you like it or not, Cal still has the top programs in most engineering, computer sciences etc.... I think you just don’t like it cause of Cal’s reputation. I’m not an enginner, but my father was a VP for Gas Operations for PG&E for many many years....so I’ve known many engineers both mechanical, civil and computer over the years.... They would tell you the same.....

.....haha.....your logic belongs on Daily Kos....you can’t tell me what they’d say cause you don’t them.....and in fact many have....of course up north, I know the universities are not of the same caliber...that is ok, if you want to argue with the experts in the area, go for it. It just makes you look argumentative and childish.... If you don’t like Cal, then fine....but disputing the acknowledged reputation held over many years is just emotional reasoning......

That’s right. I’ll go ahead and trust the “rankings” and your 2nd hand info rather than my 21 years working in the trenches with engineers of every stripe. just like Kos logic, I tell you.

Seattle was consistently ranked “the most liveable city” by experts for years. Eggs, beer and butter were “bad for you” for years (probably researche from Berkely). ANd AIrbus was going to bury Boeing because of their superior products and company structure. Lots of myths thought of as fact.

.....well as I told you, my father worked in the trenches for 45 years at PG&E and he disagrees with you....and yes I know about Boeing and Microsoft.....I guess Silicon Valley must ring a bell.....

Uh, since we are going back and forth on this, it obviously is not just me who is “argumentative”. I hold no grudge for you having your opinion. I’m just giving you the facts on the ground from my neck of the woods.

......and I stand by it....I posted facts about Cal and you wanted a scuffle with opinions from your buddies.... then you said your knew 3 Cal engineers and proceeded to generalize about flaming liberals.....yes, I stand by what I say cause I’ve heard stories from “buddies” too that make you look like less then a conservative in regards to certain affairs....so yes, you say you argue about politics but what about personal behavior not befitting a conservative?...... I don’t have a problem with arguing or debating anything, but challenging someone just to create an argument cause you don’t like them or their opinion personally frosts me.....I don’t look for arguments here either.....I don’t post a ton anymore so it says something that I have this run in again within a few months...
