Want to know why Robert Bork wrote "Slouching to Gomorra," just read the comments on this thread. We have created a very course society for our children, and are beginning to reap what we have sown.

Common decency is not so common any more, replaced by, in your face like it or lump it. No civilized society has ever survived this kind of onslaught on its culture, and I don't hold out much hope for this one.

Being in my declining years, seems to be an actual blessing, that I could have never predicted.

No offense intended towards you - I was directing my posts at those white rapper wanna-be's you see strolling down the street and in the malls wearing pants 10 times too big for them, thinking they're all that. I usually just point and laugh as I go by.

I was at Wallyworld yesterday, and I got in line behind three goth-type punks, one who was wearing pants with legs so big you could have driven a small truck through them.

It was all I could do to stifle my giggles.

Why stifle? One of the many benefits of being a grown-up is that you can point and laugh out loud at dumb-ass kids.

Some of those Dumb-ass kids are packing, so don't pick on the wrong one.

Symptoms all. You can’t codify by fiat anything other than by force—imprisonment, fine, execution.

A civil society, a just society is erected on a skeletal framework of accepted and defended truths.

We no longer have a civil society under this definition.

We have a failing society based on quicksand and the foundations have long since submerged beneath it.

A remnant will struggle to preserve what was revealed and codified under our founders magnus opus.

The rest will watch American Idol and welcome the barbarians both within and without the gates of America.

Clothes? The least of the problem. You and I will eventually be feeble, elderly people. At 52 I am still robust but I see the sunset ahead.

When we have been finally parked in managed care facilities the gangsters will be setting the agenda.

God help us and them before it is too late.

This is nothing new. Another small town in Louisiana, Opelousas, banned the same style more than 10 years ago. I was there. I think that this is a good idea. It is obscene.

And to think that this all started by issuing one-size-fits-all pants to prisoners in the L.A. County jail years ago and then, after the “integration riots” between blacks and latinos the guards took away all the prisoners’ belts.

I've never given a moments thought to why people wear their pants that way, but your statement got me thinking about it. Background please?

The biggest laugh I got from our lugger captains was when I called Gueydan guey dan instead of guadon!

In other LA news, I heard Sammy Kershaw is running against Landrieu for LT Gov. Time to flush the toilet, get rid of the Landrieus in Louisiana.

It was written up as urban fact way back in the 80s in the Daily News (San Fernando); the Pitchess Honor Ranch operated on a limited budget and they issued baggy white T-shirts and tan Baggy pants to all prisoners that would accomodate men up to 50” waists.

They allowed belts to be worn to hold up the pants until the belts and then ropes were used either as weapons or suicide materials.

The local courts with federal blessing mandated that the whites, blacks, and “Latinos” be housed without regard to racial or social differences and the “you-know-what” hit the fan.

When the trash was released onto the streets they were allowed the clothes on their backs or could change into whatever if a friend or relative would bring it to the jail and many just walked out of the joint with one hand holding up their trousers and the other raised into a fist toward “The Man.”

LOL!!!

That’s because Gueydan is a city in Louisiana and Gay Dan is a cross dressing show “girl” on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. :-)

Me too. Hard to believe this trend has survived so long. The most ridiculous I've ever seen (I think it even tops the tent sized pants built for what looks like ten men with the crotch hanging at about the ankles) was at the beach a couple weeks ago. There was a group of half a dozen high school kids, all with droopy swim trunks, and the worst offender was wearing a speedo under trunks, like this -

It was hilarious. And of course the kid thought it looked good. Ah well, I guess I should be thankful he was wearing the speedo.

It’s not so much about “common decency” as a generation that is “frontin’” the “style” of inmates as the “new cool”. Cold stares. Quick hostility.

These trends do not make for a civil society. “I don’t wanna look like no punk.” It’s a poker face. It’s a “game” and they’re all wannabe playaz.

Rappers LIE about how many crimes they’ve been sent up and how many times they’ve been shot. They need to. The market demands that they come “from the streets” and have it “rough”.

Now we see presidential candidates frontin’ too.

And based on the media pundits after the Columbine and VA Tech shootings, it'd be labelled "your fault".

I hate “rap-culture” it will be the “ruin” of my generation: A culture that worships degrading women, failure, and mediocrite as well as anger! So many other men my own age waste their lives listening to and emulaing this: C R A P!

(Sorry; my Rant of the Night ;)@)!

I doubt it will hold up better than the old hair codes in the 60s and 70s in some areas but I like the spirit of it.

I don’t think they mean precisely baggy pants like zoot or stop making sense style but more the rump in underwear exposed style favored by black thugs and their feral white imitators.

I never understood that posture....it’s like “here I am, I’m too lazy to pull up my pants and don’t care that I look like a complete idiot....browneye anyone?

I catalog such asinine style statements like that along with shower caps in the daytime, doo-rags, one pants leg pulled up, slide slippers with white socks on the street in the daytime, gold rope with clocks as necklaces, pimped anything, cornrows and braids on men....dreads are ok...if I were black that would be me probably.

This could be a book....

Broussard denied the ordinance is racially motivated.

it's usually crime motivated but they get a pass because of race
