President Bush visited with Senate Republicans behind closed doors yesterday, promising that he will follow through on border security, pleading with them to give his immigration plans a second look and trying to overcome hard feelings that arose from his recent charge that opponents are guilty of trying to "frighten people.". . .
One key question is how to go forward even though several amendments have already cut at the grand bargain -- including limiting the guest-worker program and making it easier to deport those who don't qualify for legalization -- and several other difficult amendments could pass before the bill is final.
Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott, Mississippi Republican, said those amendments will simply disappear when the House and Senate go to conference.
"No big deal -- you pitch those before you get to the Rotunda," he said.
But that is just what those who oppose the bill fear.
"I'm really disturbed Trent Lott would say: accept an amendment, he'll pitch it in conference," Mr. Sessions said. "Whose side is he on?"

I understood that and I'm familiar with the quote. I was just in a hurry and sloppy with my phrasing. I should have said that SS was probably referencing the Stevens incident when she spoke of "earthier" comments, not both of you.
Sellout is an excellent description of what happens every day in Washington. What a cess pool and a disgrace to every honest hard working American.
Thanks for the update. You could be right, and Schippers may have cleaned it up himself. I just remembered the Stevens incident and thought you might be referencing it.
Were he real, Obie Wan would have had these clowns pegged: “You won’t find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy...”
My senator, Sessions, is the one who said you have to wonder which side Lott is on.
Mississippi FReepers, it's up to you. See if you can yank Lott's butt back into line.
Thanks, I have to save this and send to my Texas Senators in case they seem to be getting wobbly.
bump for exposure

Thanks for posting this. It is a good indication of what I thought would be coming. The Senate is filled with traitors; our only hope of defeating this beast lies with the House.
I know he has nothing going for him, but finding out that his wife is a jumped-up Avon lady is just too funny. Can you imagine the intellectual level in that house?
It’s in the last two or three paragraphs, sort of buried. Search for “Lott” and you’ll find it.
W T F ?
Michael Chertoff is a duplicitous, open liar.

“I’m really disturbed Trent Lott would say: accept an amendment, he’ll pitch it in conference,” Mr. Sessions said. “Whose side is he on?”
I know, I know!
Really? He wears a wig?
“Lott did a service here even if hes to stupid to know it. Hes now let the cat out of the bag on the deal to get an amendment on a package of provisions by those opposed to the deal is nothing more than smoke and mirrors designed to get the bill voted into law and have any enforcement and penalties stripped out to get as near to the original bill as posssible. This is bound to piss off some people enough that bringing this sheer idiocy wont be able to be brought back up again. At least I hope and pray thats the case.”
That is why THE ONLY GOOD BILL IS A DEAD BILL. Even if Lott wasnt a sellout - KNOW THIS: NANCY PELOSI AND KENNEDY AND THE AMNESTY SELLOUTS WILL WRITE THIS BILL IN CONFERENCE, STUFF IT IN A SUDDEN QUICK VOTE ON THE CONGRESS, AND PRESIDENT BUSH WILL SIGN IT.
OUR ONLY HOPE IS TO GET 40 GOP SENATORS TO OPPOSE THIS P.O.S. BY RAISING SUCH A STINK OUR OWN GOP SENATORS ARE ASHAMED TO VOTE FOR THE SHAM-NESTY.
