Sex offenders are to be offered the opportunity for chemical castration as part of a series of measures to be published on Wednesday to tackle child-sex offending.
Convicted child-sex attackers will be able to control their sexual urges by taking a course of the drug Leuproreline. It has the effect of reducing testosterone levels in men and is used in the treatment of sex offenders.

But the Home Office proposal will operate only on a voluntary basis and convicted child-sex attackers will not be forced to have treatment.
The proposal to offer the drug on a voluntary basis is part of a series of measures that John Reid will announce to MPs at lunchtime.

“What’s wrong with a dull, rusty kitchen knife that is MANDATORY???”
I’d prefer to stick with the chemical approach....but it should be sulfuric acid poured on their tally-whackers

What's wrong with a dull, rusty kitchen knife that is MANDATORY??? A 12 gage shotgun with #8 bird shot at point blank range would be more thorough.

This is one area where I would not be averse to a tax break being included.

A 12 gage shotgun with #8 bird shot at point blank range would be more thorough. That is quicker, but messy. If the "offenders" were offered a mandatory hanging (or drowning) it would be cheaper, cleaner, and re-usable.

Interesting note:
The first sex offender in the US to elect for chemical castration in 1984 as part of an alternative sentence was Roger A. Gauntlett, an heir to the Upjohn pharmaceutical fortune.
The chosen drug, Depo-Provera (a woman’s birth control drug) was manufactured by .....
You guessed it, UPJOHN.
Kharma’s a bitch :)

I say just dip it in a bath of molten tin, when it falls off he can then cast a mold of his most precious part so he can have a memento...

According to the New England Journal of Medicine do you know what was used for chemical castration before Dupo Prevera? Ritalin. Who do we give that to now?

That won’t work, trust me. I was on high doses of Ritalin for over 2 years to help with some seizures I was having. If it had that side effect I wouldn’t have taken it, but to be honest the exact opposite is true. Ritalin is a amphetamine, it is like speed, to an adult it works exactly the opposite as it does in kids usually.

Stupid, just stupid! The U.S. government had no trouble confining citizens with incurable diseases, such as, leprosy on deserted islands, so I propose we do the same with pedophiles and the like. We still have control over many uninhabited rocks in the pacific, so let’s load them up and let nature take its course. Survive or be fertilizer.

Neither the classic surgical method nor the chemical route would be 100% effective in preventing re-offense. Same for psychological treatment. It's unfortunate for society, but men (and women) who have a hard wired raw lust for this form of power are untreatable by any method known today, and will re-offend in any way they can if given the opportunity.
Here I'm not talking about the 19 year old who exercises poor judgment, engaging in consensual acts with another who is 15 or so (that is a normal desire and was blessed in society not so long ago), but true rapists. The hard part is sorting out the ones who will re-offend, but they need to be put away for good, in some way.
