IMO, he hasn't announced he'll run yet because he thinks it's still too early, that presidential campaigns have gotten way too long. When he does announce it, hope it's NOT on late night tv.

NYT is stepping into personal attack terrority, they're beginning to see the ghost of Ronald Reagan here.

You can see Thompson is going to burn the field up. He’s more popular than the other candidates and he’s not debating.

I welcome it. I want to see a Republican President whoop some liberal tail, and I want my individualist/conservative brethren to enjoy it as well.

Shouldn’t they be criticizing all the declared candidates for starting to run two years before the election?

He didn’t. But an actress who came on after Thompson jokingly said that she too was quiting acting to run for president. LOL!

According to the whole story, he did announce on the show - as many others have and will

Exactly. Just because much of the field decides to start campaigning obscenely early (to get a jump on fundraising, of course), doesn’t mean everyone has to. The best strategy is to wait until the secondary tier of candidates drop out, and people are bored to tears with the first tier. THEN announce.

With the anniversary of the ‘Tear Down This Wall’ speech, I was thinking we need someone who will buck the State Department and all the rest of the ‘too afraid to tell it like it is crowd’ and just keep the speech the way it is. I don’t remember Reagan ‘spinning’. Maybe he did. But, I want a true ‘No Spin Zone’ candidate. I am so tired of the BS. Is Fred da Man? I guess we’ll see.

In 2003, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced from Mr. Leno’s studio in Burbank that he was running for governor of California.

That same year, John Edwards announced on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart that he was a candidate for president in 2004. In February, John McCain announced on David Letterman’s show that he would formally announce his campaign for the presidency in early April; and, also in February, Rudolph W. Giuliani confirmed on “Larry King Live” that he was in the race.

Har, Thompson knows Hollywood well enough to not exhibit the lack of class that these political hopefuls do by announcing on one of media lovin' late nite shows.

I would bet Thompson can garner 50 million just in Tennessee

he can tap big dollars here in Nashville ...better than Belle Meade Al can

I may not be 100% satisfied with him but my family will be good for a few Clevelands...might even do a minor meet and greet

but....if he stumbles on immigration....I will wait for a Whig moment...damn he is sorta the last hope....I just don’t see Duncan or Tom getting anywhere but I would love to see them at the table....they’ve earned it....especially Tancredo

Announcing on late night TV is Tacky.

Love how he addressed the Fire in the Belly issue (without Tums).

Fire meet belly! Fred is rarin’ to run!

FDT will announce once he is the frontrunner in the polls. From the stats on this very reliable Rasmussen Report Poll, expect about a week from now.

I know why candidates do this late night stuff, but I must say I'm not all together comfortable with "candidacy by comedian".

Guess that shows my age. :)
