Not really. Hybrids just have an expensive battery pack that should last 100,000 miles. Since they haven’t been on the road for many years though we don’t really know for sure yet whether the typical hybrid batteries will go for 75,000 or 750,000 miles before needing replacement. Given the resale value of Toyota’s however, I seriously doubt that many will be bound for the crusher if the batteries give out at 100,000. Just like it’s unlikely that a Hummer will be scrapped if it needs a new transmission.

You could be right, but it is my belief that tiny cars aren’t engineered to go more than 100k; the parts wear out because they can’t take a beating like a larger vehicle can.

My Honda Pilot will just be broken in at 100k.

Our Prius’ battery caught on fire at 79,500 miles. Thank God, that’s still under warranty.

The batteries in Ford Escape Hybrids being used as taxis are running strong. The first batch sent to NYC are ALL past 175,000 miles without problems or loss in fuel economy.

And Idaho National Labs has run hybrids to 160,000 miles to test battery efficiency at end-of-life, finding that they generally lost a little fuel economy (1-2 mpg), with the prius actually improving in fuel economy when comparing 160k with the A/C off vs new with the A/C off...
