I have been a Republican my entire adult life (Im 63 years old). I have voted straight Republican in every election. I have never sat an election out.
Let it be known, that should Congress pass this current immigration bill, with support and encouragement from President George W. Bush, Republican Senators, and others within the GOP, I will immediately change my voter classification to Independent, and never, ever, vote Republican again.
I am incensed that the man for whom I voted twice for the presidency has the audacity to imply Im racist, and the determination to go against the will of the American people. He, and our Senators, swore an oath to uphold the laws of this land. They have not enforced current immigration laws on the books, and there is no reason to believe that this law, as bad and inconsiderate as it is, would ever be enforced. The president has left me, and has left the Republican Party. And the Republican Party is apparently happy with the situation. The Republican Party no longer cares about its base, so why should its base care about it, and the president, by extension?
You can take this to the bank. I will do everything in my power to see that anyone running on the Republican ticket is defeated. I will not vote Democratic, but I will actively lobby against Republicans, and will sit out all further elections unless there is a viable Independent candidate. You think your donations have dwindled? Just wait! You havent seen anything yet.
You people disgust me. Youve lost focus on what America is, and what is good for this country. You arent Americans any longer; you are globalists. You can take your North American Union and shove it where the sun doesnt shine. I despise you.
I've had it with these dorks. I am now an Independent at heart, if not officially. All it will take is this bastard legislation to become law.
I definitely agree with the spirit of your letter.
“My two Senators are Obama and ‘Turbin’. My calling them would be a lesson in futility. “
I think not at all... By calling these senators you make them aware of the heat on this, and makes them less willing to go ‘out front on this’. That alone is helpful, even if Obama and Durbin are sellouts, open borders fanatics and socialists.
I also dont understand the idea of leaving the Republican party, when 80% of the GOP senators did the *right* thing and 80% of the Democrats did the *wrong* thing ... We need more ‘precision-guided activism’ . IMHO, defeat the individuals who are the sellouts.

To make sure that the dragon of amnesty-for-illegals is really slain, here is what the conservative Republican base needs to do. We need ... OPERATION PAYBACK:
1. Defeat Lindsay Graham in the GOP primary.
2. Defeat Chuck Hagel in the GOP primary next year or force him to quit.
3. End John McCains presidential hopes.
4. Defeat all pro-amnesty Democrat Senators next year. They include:
- Biden, Durbin, Harkin, Kerry, Lautenberg, Levin, Reed.
5. Serve notice to all other squishy GOP types that their misbehavior on immigration must end and we must have a united GOP behind the idea of Enforcement First.
6. Continue to pressure the White House to give up their Amnesty-Jihad. No rhetorical support for a White House that disses its own base, until it throws in the towel.
Since you are in Illinois, pay special attention to #4! This bill is opposed 2 to 1 by the American people. If someone runs against Durbin on this issue, he would lose.
