I read through your very long post, and I think you missed one very important point: the importance of this issue to many conservatives. To quote you: “Abortion, as I’ve said before, is my “no compromise” issue, so if the party ever did turn it’s back on its pro-life platform, I’d be saying goodbye.”
For many, many conservatives the preservation of our national identity is just as important as infanticide is to you. It is their ‘pick-up-my-marbles-and-walk-away’ issue. Their nightmares are being realized right now. You shouldn’t be surprised that they’re failing to be completely polite about it.
I was actually posting an item written by Sister Toldjah and didn’t realize that it wasn’t clear.
It’s important to have a good debate, as she wrote in that post and to fight vigorously. Where she is fair and on the mark is the conduct on both sides that undermined the very work that was in process.
