LOL! What do you care about emigres from any country? If they don’t want to immigrate here, what business is it of yours?

Use your dictionary before you look even sillier.

The cost of deporting these invaders is not relevant. Physically it can be done. Actually it might benefit the economy by providing jobs for Americans to participate in the roundup. The cost of not deporting the amigos is too high. The vast majority of these illegals have absolutely no desire to assimilate and care nothing for our culture or language. They are colonists; here to plunder what they can and return it to their own blighted kind in the cesspool from whence they emerged.

The cost of not making them subject to our law is nothing less than the dissolution of our nation as we know it. If we truly need people to fill jobs, bring in those who truly wish to become a part of our nation. Many people from central Europe (Poles, for instance)would be a great asset to our country, as they have been in the past. We allow our nation to be raped by peasant colonists from a third world banana republic.

It’s called reading between the lines and realizing the inadequacies of the fedeal government to do what it says.

For example, although those here on the Z visas are supposedly not eligible for welfare, do you really trust the feds to enforce this? Those here illegally in many areas are getting welfare and every other type of social service available to citizens - even though according to the law, they are not eligible. Many social workers here in CA are told they can’t ask about legal status, but need to just hand it out. Cafeteria workers in schools are giving free breakfasts not just to the students, but to any parents that show up.

IF the current laws are so unenforceable, how can the new huge bureaucracy this bill creates enforce anything? We can't get a passport within 2 months even with turning in an existing passport and boatloads of documentation, yet the feds can do a 24 hour background check on someone without any documentation? You say I should be informed. Have you read the 600+ page bill? If so, you've likely had to take time off from work to do it. Even the Senators voting on it haven't read it! I know the highlights and that alone is bad enough.

Nasty - I posted a reply to you, and I think it got lost.

Anyway, my main points were that our problem is that many states (CA among them) do permit illegals to get welfare benefits. I don’t expect the Fed’l gov’t to enforce the laws, but I do expect that they will cut off fed’l funds to states that don’t. That will help a lot.

The passport problem is a short term problem. Very few of us have them, and they are good for about 10 years. The feds didn’t realize how many of us vacation in Mexico, Canada & the Caribbean. There might be another problem in 10 years, though. :-)

And, yes, it does take a lot of time to stay informed. I’m retired, and a political junkie. But I do say that anyone who is going to get inflamed or emotional about an issue really needs to take time to research it.

As part of this amnesty bill?

What's your position on the bill? I get the impression you are either for it or are neutral and don't see why people are 'emotional' over it, as you say. You've used that term repeatedly, as have the Washington elites to imply that those that care about it are only acting on emotions and not thinking.

That's rather condescending.

BTW, how was I being nasty? By asking if you’ve read the entire bill?

This bill is being pushed through so fast and furious that not even those in Washington have time to read it. So I thought it a fair question since you were expecting others that have jobs and families to read all of it as well.

"Actually, we don't. We don't have effective laws preventing employers from hiring illegals, and we don't have sufficient ways for them to check. IMO, that's the biggest problem."

Yes we do, we lack enforcement of those laws.

"We also don't have effective guest worker programs which make sure that the industries (primarily seasonal, but a few others like child care workers and computer programmers) can have the number of workers they need, but not more than the shortage of American workers requires."

A "guest worker program" already exists, its called a work visa "green card". If we need more people, increase the number issued.

"We also don't have laws preventing illegal residents from getting welfare - including SSI, health care, EITC, etc."

False. These laws are in place. They are largely ignored.

"Our current laws (state laws) prevent police from turning illegals over to the Feds if they find that they are indeed illegal."

There are existing law and procedures, however these these laws and procedures have been gutted, rewritten and new laws put in place to negate the existing laws. We need to put the teeth back into the old laws.

"There's more, but isn't that enough to convince you that we need a change in Fed'l laws?"

I even more convinced we need enforcement of existing laws.

Very good post and I agree on much that I read.

I myself have been at battle tonight over the manner of handling a WH source visit to a thread and the way to handle our views so that they are credible rather than getting the whole site ignored as radicals. With no success I might add.

"I am not suggesting dropping out, I am just observing that the grandeur gets to some in the House and the Senate."

I agree.

The biggest mistake we made was allowing public service to become a career.

Good morning, WorkerbeeCitizen.

I’ve said it before, while I appreciate those who limit their service to two terms, I nevertheless appreciate the right to reelect someone who gets it, because there are some who do get it.

And how much does it cost to educate and provide free healthcare to the millions of “undocumented americans”?

Not to worry, our taxes will increase to pay for this out of control madness.

This is not an “amnesty” bill. People who are here illegally will have to pay fines, get in a long line to earn citizenship, learn English, etc.
I do agree with you that the bill is being pushed too fast and without enough discussion in public. No one thinks it is a perfect bill. But is it the best we can get? Maybe. And do we need one? Most definitely.

Yes we do, we lack enforcement of those laws.

What are those laws you are referring to? How do employers check status of their employees, and what are the penalties if they hire illegals?

They get to stay - that’s why it’s amnesty. There are no consequences for breaking our laws.

And the ‘fine’ that is getting bantered around is much, much less than those immigrants that are coming here the legal way have to pay. But I doubt they’ll even have to pay that much.

I know there are laws on the book that make it a crime to knowingly hire illegal immigrants.

Most folks get hung up on the word "knowingly". I'm not an attorney so I'll not delve into employment law with you.

I now see the bassis of our discussion. By your last question, I see you want more laws this bill offers. I do not. Therein lies our disagreement - more government or less government. At this point, there will be nothing either one of us can say to the other, to change the other's mind.

viva la difference.
