"He lived in the eighteenth century— it was a different world. I think it’s a good thing to take into account that the literacy rates were lower and the mucky mucks read to those who worked for them and made interpretation of the information. Once literacy increased, then the ability of the elites to think for the non luxury clad classes was eliminated. Eric Hoffer noted that this elitism about information permeated the print and television news reporting and lamented that he would never live to see a liberation of the rest of the population relative to news reporting and interpretation. That’s true, he is long gone, but we did live to see it— by the internet and specifically blogs."

Excellent. I agree.

My my my.

I can see that you are somewhat confused and I see why.

You are operating on the premise that "a bill" is necessary - it is NOT.

As has been stated earlier, we have sufficient existing laws on the books to solve the illegal immigration issue.

The point has also been made that illegal immigrants are not nor do they intend to obey those or any other laws we legislate.

Now if you can operate on THAT fact, then you be able to get back on track.

:-) Sorry, I didn’t mean to leave you waiting for me. I had to get ready to leave for the day.

I’m afraid my FReeping today will be limited by other responsibilities. I will try to stop by when I can but I already see a 3.5 hour class on my schedule. Yikes, haul in the kawfee.

Cheers,

sl

You both are beautiful. A photo does not show how beautiful a person IS, only how an inanimate object (camera) picks up there image.

It is absolutely amnesty.

The definition of amnesty has no references to paying a fine or not paying a fine it is irrelevant.

These folks are able to profit from there crimes.

Our politicos took an oath to uphold the law. If they cannot do it, they need to resign.

P.S. “You are in an emotional state”, is an old ploy to diminish the credibility of an opponent. It is unworthy of a conservative.

75% of the security and checks in this bill are negated by the exceptions. It is nothing but a dirty trick.

Your post amused me no end - pointing out all of your failures of information and logic would take forever, so let me just comment on the silliest one -

5. Any illegals wanting to emigrate must get at the back of the line.

Yes, that’s also part of the bill (I assume you mean immigrate). The estimate is that it would take 10-14 years for someone currently illegal to get consideration for citizenship.

No, I do not mean immigrate....proper term is emigrate. One does not “immigrate” to another country..use a dictionary.

Use *your* dictionary. One "emigrates" FROM a country, or "immigrates" TO it.
I don't believe it's possible to emigrate from a country you're not a legal resident of, but with your logic anything is possible.
And I wouldn't particularly care if any illegals wanted to leave anyway.

As soon as the bill is signed, illegals become legal. They get to stay here, have no consequences for being here illegally, and have access to ALL of our social services along with citizenship down the road if they desire. And no fear of ever being deported. That's amnesty.

You're obviously not reading the bill or any facts about it. Where did you get that stuff? I've heard some similar stuff on Conservative talk shows, and I have been very disappointed in their lack of research.
Anyone who is going to be passionate about their views should at least try to be informed.

As has been stated earlier, we have sufficient existing laws on the books to solve the illegal immigration issue.

Actually, we don't. We don't have effective laws preventing employers from hiring illegals, and we don't have sufficient ways for them to check. IMO, that's the biggest problem.

We also don't have effective guest worker programs which make sure that the industries (primarily seasonal, but a few others like child care workers and computer programmers) can have the number of workers they need, but not more than the shortage of American workers requires.

We also don't have laws preventing illegal residents from getting welfare - including SSI, health care, EITC, etc.

In many states, illegals can get driver's licenses and even register to vote.

Our current laws (state laws) prevent police from turning illegals over to the Feds if they find that they are indeed illegal.

There's more, but isn't that enough to convince you that we need a change in Fed'l laws?

“Use *your* dictionary. One “emigrates” FROM a country, or “immigrates” TO it. “

No kidding.... they can emigrate from what ever hellhole they came from....by getting in the LEGAL line to enter the US.

Whew.... that was pretty tough to figure out.

Not.
