Paris Hilton is a ditzy dingbat and a poor role-model for young girls BUT I don’t think she should be singled out for harsher treatment just because of her celebrity.

It seems that never before has anyone been sentenced to 45 days jail in CA for doing what Paris did.

I think 3 days would have been sufficient.
Or 100hrs of community service and perhaps a public service TV spot with her admonishing others to not be as stupid as she was and to avoid driving after drinking any amount of booze and not to violate conditions of parole.

She had a .08 alc level... that is not much I must say.
She weighs what? 100lb? ... that’d be like 1.5 beers.

Prosecutors’ Motion To Revoke Paris Hilton’s Probation People of the State of Calif. v. Paris Whitney Hilton April 30, 2007

Arguing that "probation is a privilege and not a right," Los Angeles prosecutors filed this motion to revoke Paris Hilton's probation stemming from her September 27, 2006 DUI charges. Hilton pleaded no contest in January 2007 to reckless driving charges stemming from the incident. A judge sentenced her to 3 years of probation, ordered her mandatory attendance at an alcohol education program, and that she pay fines of $1,500.

But according to prosecutors, Hilton violated at least three terms of her probation. First, she failed to enroll in an alcohol education course within 21 days of her sentencing.

Second, she had several traffic violations after receiving probation. On February 27, 2007, she was stopped by L.A. Sheriff Deputies for driving “a new Bentley” at 70 m.p.h. in a 35 m.p.h. zone “in darkness without her headlights on,” and without a valid driver’s license. Hilton’s license had been suspended by California&rsquos; Department of Motor Vehicles in November 2006 for having an "Excessive Blood Alcohol Level.”

Finally, prosecutors argued, Hilton failed to "obey all laws and orders of the Court," another condition of her probation.

On May 4, 2007, a judge sentenced Hilton to 45 days in jail for violating the terms of her probation.

VC 23582 Penalty enhancement for 23152 or 23153 while also driving 30 or more mph over the maximum, prima facie, or posted speed limit on a freeway, or 20 or more mph over the maximum prima facie, or posted speed limit on any other street or highway.

Penalty: Additional consecutive term of 60 days county jail, alcohol/drug treatment program.

SHE COULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A MORE JAIL TIME, THAN WHAT SHE GOT!

please. had that been you or I, we’ed be in for a lot more than 45 days. This isn’t her first time. she was DUI, THEN she was stopped without a license, during which she claimed not to know that her license was suspended and had to sign an acknowledgment that she cannot drive, then she was picked up a THIRD time.

she isn’t being singled out for harsh treatment, mroe likely the reverse. See if your contributions to the local sharriff’s election fund can get you out of jail!

She should not be treated differently than anybody else.

and if .08 isn’t bad, then why is that the DUI standard across the nation? Impaired is impaired, DUI is DUI.

She’s not in for her drinking. She’s in because she got back behind the wheel less than a week later when she was not supposed to be driving.

When the media obsess over a celebrity slut, the media have lost all credibility and reason for existing.

I can’t speak for CA, but in Michigan she would have her probation terminated and most likely received 60 to 90 days. With good behavior she would be out in 50 to 75 days.

She’s not being singled out. She’s not getting harsher treatment. And she wasn’t sentenced for DUI. She violated probation. TWICE. She’s never taken it seriously. She thinks she’s above the law which probably explains her over the top reaction. If she behaves herself she will do about 23 days. BFD.

No, it's not a lot. Especially since the anti-alcohol nannies of MADD got the limits lowered. But she was swerving like crazy, so for her, she got busted with that small amount of booze. Being on other drugs at the same time accentuates the effect of alcohol.

She did NOT get sentenced to jail for drunk driving (pled down to 'reckless driving'), she got sentenced for her SECOND time driving on a suspended license, when she has more than enough money for lawyers to explain patiently that she should not do this. She also has more than enough money to hire a limo and a driver to whore around LA.

As for "harsh treatment", she is going to get her "good time" discount, as long as she does not assault fellow inmates or staff. She will spend the next two weeks until release drugged out of her mind, with her shrink coddling her every day. If she ever does get back into a real jail (I expect it before the end of this year, given her propensity to learn NOTHING from her misbehavior) the regular inmates are going to freak out! There are loads of them who don't have a team of lawyers, doctors, and even a sheriff bought and paid for!
