I hate to say it, but this is by far Iran’s strongest deterrent- and it’s a big one.

There’s a certain Saudi refinery- I forget which one- which is one of the most heavily guarded places on earth since it’s widely known that if terrorists took it out it would cripple Saudi oil production- apparently Saudi oil needs some kind of special treatment before shipping.

A refinery like that would be a model target for medium range missiles like Iran has.

The Iranians understand power. If they think they can deter us from an attack by threatening thousands of attacks around the globe, in the US, Europe and the Gulf, they will use that threat, and hope it works. However, if we let them know that responses of that sort will be met, not with handwringing, but with a sustained campaign of punishment, that takes out 100 valuable targets for every 1 that the Iranians attack, they will either not retaliate, or their retaliation will be short lived.

A fusillade of missiles aimed at oil interests in the gulf would be met with destruction of Military facilities around Iran, and the headquarters of the mullahs, and the headquarters of the oil production entity. If they persist, bridges, roads, key buildings, homes of high-level leaders, and so on, get taken out, day after day after day. Clinton was the 2nd worst President in history, but one thing he showed in Serbia was that an air campaign like this can eventually force even a strong willed opponent to give in. We can pound them relentlessly as long as we want, and for every little gnat-like nick they make on our ass, we can remove limbs and internal organs. They are pussies at heart; they will cave.
