Does this have any chance at all of becoming law?

I agree with your ideas, and I hope that, if the bill passes, it will be enforced. When I lived near San Diego, I heard that English is the official language of the Calif. government, but that state gives its drivers license test in 34 languages.

Only if we can make enough noise about it. The Senate leadership would like it to remain unknown. I've been including comments about the ENFORCE ACT to all senators I've been calling and faxing and hope everyone will do the same. Let any news outlets know about it.

English as the Official Language of the US Government

The Constitution’s language is English. The language of all subsequent federal and state laws is English. America’s language is therefore officially English. Legislating English as the official language is nearly irrelevant.

English as the official language of the USA FedGov. Interesting. Will they use the MSM dialect?

Sounds like the best way to solve the problem.

I think this legislation is THE important first step.

I can't disagree with that!

In the recent debate, the candidates were asked if EOL should be the law of the land. They were never asked about it being the official language of the government.

A little dishonesty there.

“In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...

There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

—Theodore Roosevelt, 1919

Loud Mime, the easy answer is that we stop paying for translators or translations and that we complete the job that the 1996 Welfare Reform Act left behind.
