Poll: Thompson Shaking Up GOP Race
NBC6.net ^ | June 9, 2007 | AP

WASHINGTON -- Fred Thompson isn't officially in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, but a new poll suggests he could really shake it up.

An Associated Press-Ipsos poll shows former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani leading among the GOP contenders with 27 percent. Then comes Sen. John McCain at 19 percent and Thompson, an actor and former senator from Tennessee, at 17 percent.

Thompson, who may enter the race soon, is ahead of Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, who has 10 percent.

Another non-candidate is in the top tier of Democrats.

Sen. Hillary Clinton has 33 percent in the poll; Sen. Barack Obama 21 percent; former Vice President Al Gore, who isn't a candidate, 20 percent; and former Sen. John Edwards, 12 percent

There are persistant rumors on the other side that Al Gore could be persuaded to run. That would be odd, if both party’s nominees were from Tennessee.

Another article of the same name with more detail.

“Fred Thompson’s expected entry into the tight Republican presidential race is drawing crucial strength from conservatives and older men, vaulting him into the thick of the GOP nomination fight, an Associated Press-Ipsos poll says.”

Not a far stretch from both of them being from Yale... like last time.

One poll? How about every single poll that's out there proves he's the man.

Al Gore is not from Tennessee.

Gore was born in Bethesda, MD and was raised in Washington D.C.

Gore merely used his family's Tennessee heritage as a base for his political aspirations.

Only amongst liberals, because they wanted to paint him as an outsider all of these years.

Considering Algore didn’t even win Tennessee in 2000, I think it would really crush his ego if Thompson takes it by 75 points. :->

That would be odd, if both party’s nominees were from Tennessee.

It would also be the second time that Al Gore failed to carry his home state in a Presidential race.

Gore will be running, mark my words. He’ll lose, but he’ll run. Isn’t it amazing how th eMSM paints the GOP as coming unwound b/c we have 3 major candidates and a fourth, FDT, getting ready to enter when the Dems have exactly the same scenerio. Clinton, Obama, Edwards with Gore being a close second while not in the race.
