Since the Dem’s been so successful with their politics of personal destruction, I think Bush is getting his revenge with the immigration bill. He’s dragging them down with him.

The conservative base is ticked off at Bush and thus a divide exists within the party. This is not a bad thing as some seem to suggest.

This divide leaves room for a conservative candidate to step forward and re-energize the conservative base, strengthening the GOP leading up to the 2008 election.

In strength training, you have to break down your muscles to get stronger. The same principles apply to the leadership of the Republican Party.

I think you are right. He knew what would happen, and let it unfold to reveal them. With his high unpopularity, leaving office he didn’t have much to lose.

Also agree that this sets up Rep candidates to take him while looking at the bigger picture - 08
