As the nation continues to debate its immigration laws..Spanish-speaking Mountain View residents..were given advice by local officials on how to deal with federal immigration agents. The public forum..brought together leaders from local police, education and health care agencies Sunday to address concerns such as the recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and proposed immigration reform bills in Congress.
School superintendents Maurice Ghysels and Barry Groves .. emphasized that their districts would never pass along a child's immigration status to any officials.
Richard Hobbs, director of the county's Office of Human Relations, spoke to fears of immigration raids when he said that "the best advice is silence" if approached by an ICE agent. "Everyone in the U.S. has the right to silence as outlined in the Fifth Amendment." .. "If you live in California, you don't even have to give your name to an ICE agent," he said.
Mountain View Police Chief Scott Vermeer, who introduced himself as the son of an undocumented Mexican immigrant, said his police department has "no role enforcing federal immigration laws ... unless the safety of the general public is at stake. .."All emergency services are totally disinterested in immigration status; please pass along that info."

I live right near this town in Silicon Valley. It’s amazing how brazen people like the Chief of Police are about not showing respect for the law.
...I don’t know about in Silicon Valley but I know several S.F. cops and they tell me they are forbidden by the city to ask....and they don’t like it...in fact, they hate Mayor Newsome but they can’t do anything about it if they want to keep their jobs....I wouldn’t blame the cops as much as the Mayor or city councils.....
Here’s what can done about it:
RICO lawyers could turn it around in a few years and MAKE MONEY at the same time. Im surprised they havent done it already.
In the absence of enforcement,we can get the word out in the meantime that there is money to be made in filing RICO lawsuits against employers who hire illegal aliens.
Employers would have no trouble shutting down the border if they could get sued by someone under the RICO statutes for hiring these people in the first place. The next time an illegal alien kills someone in a drunk driving accident or somesuch thing, Im going to point out that the victims family might be able to seek compensation from the employer under these statutes in the hopes that it would catch on. If this did catch on, would see such a swift backlash against illegal immigration that no employer would go near these people and theyll all simply want to go back home.
...lol....I’m sure Alberto Gonzalez would find a way to stop that.....
Hey, who is paying these @$$^)(#$? Time for a reality check. We need to seriously take away these guys money.
Good.
I live in this city for more than 6 yrs, and have observed the transformation. Its not a pretty sight, the mainstreet El Camino is littered on both sides with illegals waiting to be picked up for work, being paid under the table. All restaurants are run by latinos, nobody speaks english anymore. The apartment complex I live in used to be very quiet, and peaceful. Not anymore, overcrowded apartments by latinos, many children, 2 and 3 families at the time. While I have no problem with immigrants, being one myself, I do have a problem that laws are not respected. The complex being trashed, noise all night long, and drunken fights constantly. Knowing that special interests are working on these local pols is no surprise, its everywhere.
