CJCS term is 2 years. Gen Pace’s term is expiring in Sept.

There is a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, from the officers of the regular components of the armed forces. The Chairman serves at the pleasure of the Presiden t for a term of two years, beginning on October 1 of odd-numbered years. Subject to paragraph (3), an officer serving as Chairman may be reappointed in the same manner for two additional terms. However, in time of war there is no limit on the number of re appointments.

Did you just wake up from a long term coma or were you out in space?

Up until today they had managed to avoid admitting it. If they get a single appointment approved between now and January 2009 then I'll be amazed.

Oh, brother! If anybody needs to go, it is Petraeus, Conway, Mattis, et al.
Not Pace.

Bingo.

I was never crazy about Gates, but that’s another story.

I'm glad these politicians think that pandering to sexual deviants is more important than good order and discipline in the military.

Unfortunately, the libs don't care much about the latter, and the homosexuals are one of the Democrats' most solid constituency groups.

I’d keep Mattis. He likes to shoot Muslim wife beaters as well as terrorists since, in his opinion, they lacked manhood.

Pace will write a tell all book and slam the Administration for the way it handled the war.

Yea, it is because of Iraq:

WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday he has decided to replace the chairman and vice chairman of the joint chiefs of staff rather than have them go through contentious hearings before Congress.

Speaking to reporters, and referring to the debate over the war in Iraq, Gates said he envisioned “a confirmation process that would not be in the best interest of the country” were he to renominate Marine Gen. Peter Pace as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Adm. Ed Giambiastiani as vice chairman.

Gates told reporters he had recommended that Adm. Mike Mullen, currently chief of naval operations, replace Pace.

The real reason the libs don't like Pace is because a while back, he stated that he believes that open homosexuals don't belong in the military.

Yep. And the rats then took heat from a huge portion of their base (the sodomites) and let Gates know that they would have to drag Pace through the mud in order to placate them.

You know, if I were Admiral Mullen, I’d seriously think twice about taking that job since its obvious he won’t get any support whatsoever from Bush against the Dem-piranhas over in Congress. I’d hate to go into that job having to look over my shoulder time and again to make sure that I’m not being hung out to dry.
