Thanks. This is just a variation of Tesla’s design. Nothing real innovative. Other than creating a directed flow of energy. No it isn't. Tesla used eletomagnetic radiation, or radio, which would have traveled through a natural conduit in the atmosphere. These MIT guys are using magnetic coupling.
BTW, Tesla was as crazy as he was smart and his own worst enemy.
