I am surprised that this man got elected.

A mild exposure to the mind-set of Minnesotans (especially in
the Twin Cities) would show it's no suprise at all.

My brother saw himself as a liberal when he was doing his undergraduate
degree at one of the Big 12 schools (in their southern sector).
When he arrived at the U. Minn (St. Paul campus) to do his graduate
degree in the late 1980s...he found out he was really a conservative Republican!

The place is lousy with smart, innovative and naive people.
But my brother did enjoy trips to the countryside (as part of his
thesis work). He said once you got outside The Twin Cities,
people were pretty much "average Joes/Josephines".

Frankly, I'm still suprised that Coleman got elected to the US
Senate and Pawlenty got to be governor.

My brother said that when he took his family to MN for the MN
state fair last year...
he was shocked at how many "skinnies" (aka Somali Muslims) there
were on the streets on the Twin Cities.
I said...well, there are enough that they can dictate art class
cirriculum at some charter schools (no depictions of human faces
by students, be they Muslim or otherwise)...
and the Muslim taxi drivers refuse to tranport fares that have
liquor (oftne purchased at duty-free stores by globe-trotting infidels).
