Mom dies keeping gang out of her bar
Teresa Hastings wanted her bar to be a place where people felt comfortable -- a neighborhood watering hole, like the one on "Cheers." Hastings, 42, got to know her regular customers like family after buying the Half Time Sports Bar at Harry and Hillside in 2005, family members said.
Tuesday night, however, gang members -- perhaps a dozen, witnesses told police -- tried to enter the bar.
Lt. Jeff Easter said the group refused to show a bar employee their IDs and Hastings refused to let them in. An argument started between the group and patrons inside and spilled into the parking lot, where someone opened fire.
Hastings was shot, and a 24-year-old employee was injured. The man was released from the hospital Wednesday, but Hastings died from her injuries about 3:30 a.m.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Stolz said the shooting is the latest in a developing trend.
Of the 20 homicides in Wichita this year, he said, more than half involved gang members targeting people without gang ties.

There is absolutely no information in this article about what gangs they are talking about.
There is a veritable plague of gang activity described, half of the murders in Wichita attributable to these gangs, etc.
What gangs are we talking about here? Bloods? Cripps? MS-13? Biker gangs? Amish gangs?

The full article is a bit coy, doesn’t say who these ‘gang’ types may be, but Wichita is on I-35, which goes all the way south to Laredo, TX. Add to that stories about the MS13 gang and the like and I’ll bet the perp isn’t called Smith.
And the government wants to build a super-highway from the border with the first, yes first Customs post in Kansas City....
I myself wonder that, what was the racial makeup the gang??? I don’t know that information has yet to be released. However FYI more black gangs are in the vicinity of Hillside and Harry than latino gangs. I presume why they did not present ID was because some were underage.
Probably all the 'gangs' you refer to: a summation of acts attributable to 'gangs'.
This keeps up, pretty soon "people without gang ties" will be targeting "gang members". And it really wouldn't take many "people without gang ties" to start doing this before "gang members" would refuse to self-identify by dress or behavior, either.
Historically, the only lasting cure for gang problems has usually involved posses of fed-up citizen.

The fact that they use the term “gang” then basically refuse to state exactly “what kind of gang” it is leaves me dubious of the lack of reportage.

Yeah, I guess they have the Crips and “Vatos Locos in Wichita distribute marijuana at the retail level”. That’s what I came up with after a quick google. It sounds as though Kansas is infected with the same kind of street gangs as some of the larger cities.
Someone (the owner) should have 'threatened' fire the moment a client assumed the role of adversary, rather than customer.
No shoes, no shirt, no brains. We reserve the right to refuse service.
And of course the citizens would be the ones arrested/charges, the gangs would then sue, and probably the ACLU/La Raza would pay for their "violation of our civil rights" suit.
When our own government puts border guards in jail for shooting a fleeing drug-dealer on the border...
