Major Garrett has sources on both sides of the aisle telling him we can write the bill's obituary. Roll call going on now.

The coming primaries are going to be a lot of fun to watch...
thanks Dennis...good to be here
Something to the effect of, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have just killed the amnesty bill!”
The powers that be in both parties want this to happen. They haven't given up on amnesty in some form.
I’ve seen a number of posts giving a Kyl a pass or pardon as you put it but you’d better be careful with this clown because once somebody does or tries something this effing stupid they’ll do or try it again on something else. Be watchful. Vigilant even.
How about a recall on Salazar!
I did, and I do. Technically, they were traitors. Honorable intentions, but traitors just the same.
And, yes, every statistic we have shows that the Reagan tax cuts were not only NOT "temporary," but that the 1990s were almost entirely based on those cuts.
There is no way around the fact that ANY confederate was a traitor. Most well-meaning, and sincerely believing they had the "right" interpretation of the Constitution . . . but so did the Federalists in 1814 who planned secession. So do those idiots in Vermont right now talking secession. It's a traitorous activity, and people want to give Lee a pass because he was a nice guy.
I'm amused at all the Freepers who bash Rudy all the time over his "pro-choice" views, but here we have a couple of senators, Kyl and McConnell, who are 100% pro-life and yet "off with their heads" over this particular issue.
If you review Freeper comments about whatever is "hot" at the time---judges, pro-life, gay marriage, the war, immigration---you will find that "ONLY" that issue matters. No, we cannot consider anything else, because if we "don't get this right, it's all meaningless."
Don’t bet on it. All this vote really meant is that debate is not yet closed and it can’t come to a vote.
Sooner or later it, or its evil will make to the floor to be voted upon.

Yes, most one issue people do feel that theirs is the only issue.
Illegals is most certainly not the only issue. Not with me anyway. *But* my contention still stands. If we don’t control our southern border, our other concerns will become unattainable. As far as priorities are concerned, where is it written that only one issue at a time can be dealt with? You and I don’t run our personal and professional lives one issue at a time. Surely the leadership of the US government ought to be able to multitask. Even as dumb as they are. But if they can’t focus on more than one thing at a time (which often seems to be the case) then stopping illegals needs to be first in line.
Also, securing the southern border is not a separate issue from WOT. It is an integral part of the WOT.
Taxes and spending? What success do you suppose we will have there with another 30 million [bottom rung] illegals?
As unhappy as many of us are with the Republican party, how are we going to advance our agenda on any issue after 12 million mexicans start voting Democrat and the Republicans are relegated to permanent doormats?
None of these problems exists in isolation. But we have to decide how we are going to address them and how to allocate our resources.
I agree, but I list “WoT” as the #1 issue, and if they are divided, the border is #2. While terrorists can come across both our borders, so far MOST terrorists are “over there.” So if I had to separate them, I’d put WoT #1, judges #2 (because almost everything CAN be accomplished-—the wrong way, but accomplished-—through the courts), border #3, and life #4, because I think you have to take care of those already here first, or there won’t be any unborn to worry about.
That you cling to that says plenty about your intentions with your otherwise reasonable history book.
Glad to see we've shaken that out.
I will go along with that. Also, what I try to convince the single issue pro lifers is that abortion is an issue we will have to win over a period of time. Incrementalism is the only way. And we will win by first winning over the hearts of the people and at the same time nudging the courts in the right direction. I believe the people's view of abortion has changed a lot in recent years, progress is being made. The scales are tipping. As evidenced by the abject hysteria on the left when the subject is broached.
But the border & terrorism are not nearly so incremental. We can't whittle away at them. We need to be decisive, resolute and not go wobbly when things are not going well.
Judges are essential also, but that is a long term project which requires long term dominance by conservative thinking pols. Like terror, it will never be won without continual, never ending vigilance.
Glad to explain things to my slower readers.
Disagree on the judges. We are one away. This could come as soon as next year, and for all the Bush bashing here, he has been excellent on judges, and could possibly give us the 5/4 majority with a frequent 6/3 majority if Kennedy decides to play it straight. This could start affecting things within a year. Put another way, through their rulings they could have an impact before any fence would.
you really mean chumps that bought your alleged conservative history book that only just pretends selectively to be such?
yes...I stand guilty of that...but don't worry it won't happen again.
and btw....it's no surprise to many here that folks like you who equivocate over amnesty as if it's just another run of the mill policy mistake that should not blemish the records of otherwise fine senators also happen to be disproportionately South demonizers as well.
Equivocators are the bane of conservatism and are the main reason we are not dealing with illegals properly because they see it as an ethnic issue and given their obession with redress, they can't deal with brown illegals
