Bush 'surprised' by conservative anger
The Washington Times ^ | June 06, 2007 | Jon Ward & Ralph Z. Hallow

Posted on 06/06/2007 6:38:28 PM PDT by de meanr

"He was surprised by the reaction," Mr. Snow said of Mr. Bush's speech in Glynco, Ga., last week. "The speech in Georgia was, 'We've got a serious problem and we need to fix it.' It was not in any way designed to be pointed at Republicans." But conservative opponents of a Senate immigration bill supported by Mr. Bush reacted furiously to the president's suggestion that they are resorting to scare tactics by using the word "amnesty" in referring to the measure that would allow millions of illegal aliens to remain in the United States.

He's out of touch because the people that are trying to tell him something he doesnt want to hear aren't let into the White House (namely Rep Tancredo). That becomes 'the bubble' that others posted about.

Mr President: Build that wall!

“Bush ‘suprised’ by conservative anger”

If he was in any way, shape or form ONE OF US, he wouldn’t be surprised at all.

Yeah, I voted for GWB twice-I’ve always been a card carrying Republican....until now. I can’t begin to find words that can adequately describe my level of disgust at all of this... Most of these worthless Senators I would have expected to pull this crap, but it really hurts when I supported that POS POTUS all this time. There is a special place in hell for him... I hope. I just can’t believe that we have to sit and take this crap. If (when) this bill makes it to the house, we obviously need to do more than the old phone, e-mail and fax routines, ‘cause it didn’t work here......

These “MAGGOTS” aren’t WORTHY of ANYTHING!!! “They” have ALREADY demonstrated a healthy DISREGARD for OUR PRINCIPLES AND WAY OF LIFE....... TO HELL WITH THEM!! CALL “them” for what they are (PARASITES) and let it go at that.

I think you are mad at the wrong folks altogether. People respond to the incentives you give them. Since 1986, our political class has hung up a big sign on the border saying:

"Don't worry, come on over--there's a good education for your kids and a good job for you. We'll pretend you are illegal but really, you are welcome. Just work for cheap, have lots of kids here, and teach them to vote democrat."

Mexicans responded to the system our political class deliberately created. And they responded in exactly the manner our political class intended. Who is to blame?

” THIRTY MILLION sounds closer to the truth...”

Yeah. In ‘86 they said 1.3 million and it turned out to be 3 million. So I guess it’s probably about 25 - 30 million this time.

Also, yesterday the CBO said this bill will reduce illegal immigration by 25%. Just the kind of results I would expect from the government.

Harsh, though I agree with every word.

My head is spinning, tax cuts then this amnesty garbage. This will undo everything that we have monetarily gained and then cost us big time, not to mention our way of life!

I have seen first hand what illegal immigration does to a wonderful middle class town...runs it into the ground!

The ruling body in our town choose to penalize the landlord rather than deport the lowlifes. My town is a sanctuary town.

Administration surprised that people with common sense notice that our government hasn't enforced immigration laws in decades, and doesn't trust this "This time, we really, really mean it" ploy.

Doesn't trust them that they took a relatively simple issue and turned it into hundreds of pages of bureaucratic nonsense and tried to sneak it past us in the middle of the night.

Doesn't trust it just because Ted Kennedy, one of the most corrupt, lying scofflaw reprobates in our history is the main player.

Etc etc.

We need to throw these disconnected idiots out on their ear.

If he’ surprised by this, what else is he surprised by? Maybe he should step down.

Well I am cuprised that he is so out of touch with the base.

I'm not. In his interview with O'Reilly he seemed darned proud of it. O'Reilly asked him what he thought of the opinions of him on the internet and blogs and so forth. Pres. Bush grinned and said "Oh, I never read any of that stuff. I usually don't even read the newspapers. Laura reads them and tells me about it."

That's not verbatim from the transcript but I'll bet my memory of it is very close.
