Thompson has come under some criticism from pro-life circles because he took an official pro-abortion position in 1994 when he looked to represent Tennessee in the U.S. Senate. Thompson's voting record is pro-life, he has never actively supported abortion, that's good enough for me.

Thompson has come under some criticism from pro-life circles because he took an official pro-abortion position in 1994 when he looked to represent Tennessee in the U.S. Senate. This was based on an issues survey that he doesn't even recall filling out. He has stated over and over he disagreed with that statement..

You know what really appeals to me is the fact that Fred has faith in the American people. He basically wants the decision on abortion to go back to the American people, and he has faith they will make the correct decision. I think ultimately that's what Federalism is all about.
BTW, I LOVED that grin after he said "It's in the Constitution."

His voting record is pretty good with the huge exception of CFR. Thompson is not perfect, but he is better than Rudy McRomney.

I would like to hear him say that he is disappointed to see what a fiasco CFR has turned into.

Yes, Fred is pro-life... and this sadly proves that some Freepers have lied about him... something that is quite abhorrent to me.

I wonder if the former FReeper liberals who got bug zapped are now upset that Fred is pro-life.

*********************************
What they have done is invent a new convoluted definition of “Pro-Choice” that applies to them only, and then claim that Thompson is “Pro-Choice” That way they get to lie and tell the truth at the same time. Its a great propaganda technique.....Goebbles and Michael Moore would be proud...
To: wagglebee
Wait until the MSM start going after him for his role as a racist in some old TV/movie twenty years ago .... just because he played a part they’re moving to brand him a racist .... just like this other actor who played a nazi propagandist in the movie “Mother Midnight” (I think that was the name) starring Nick Nolte ....

Fred Thompson has sure changed his stance since 1994, when he was Pro-choice.
Abortion
(Back to top) 9. If elected to Congress, which of the following general principles or specific proposals will you support concerning abortion?
X Abortions should be legal in all circumstances as long as the procedure is completed within the first trimester of the pregnancy.
Abortions should be legal only when the life of the mother is endangered.
Abortions should be legal only when the pregnancy results from incest or rape, or when the life of the mother is endangered.
X A woman under the age of 18 should be required to notify a parent or guardian before having an abortion.
A woman should be required to notify her spouse before having an abortion.
X States should be allowed to impose mandatory waiting periods before abortions are performed.
X Congress should eliminate federal funding for clinics and medical facilities that provide abortion services.
X Congress should eliminate abortion services from any federally funded health care plan.
X Congress should leave legislation on this issue to the states.

Some persons keep trying to paint him as a flip flopper. American Spectator had an article that traced the smear back to Romney evangelicals.
But it doesn’t matter. Romney is not going to win the nomination. And pro-life groups are solidly in FDT’s camp.

but is he too lazy to actual follow through? This is like when they said that Reagan was a dumb, trigger-happy cowboy who slept too much.

He has said something similar to that. This is the first I knew he didn’t necessarily what to repeal the whole thing.
