"The amendment would have restricted the number of illegal immigrants eligible to remain in the country"

Yeah, real cure that they didn't mention that it would have "restricted the number" by preventing felons from staying in the country.

So the following senators just voted to allow illegal aliens who have committed felonies from staying in the country for an unlimited length of time: Larry Craig (Idaho) Pete Domenici (N.M.) Lindsey Graham (S.C.) Chuck Hagel (Neb.) Jon Kyl (Ariz.) Richard Lugar (Ind.) Mel Martinez (Fla.) John McCain (Ariz.) Arlen Specter (Pa.) George Voinovich (Ohio)

The real brilliance to what Cornyn was trying to do was that this is tied with a big push to crack down on identity theft.. the fact is that many (if not most) illegals are able to stay in the country because they have committed felonies like identity theft or tax fraud.. The Cornyn amendment would automatically make most ineligible.. Smart move.. to bad the McLame/Hagels of the world have gone off the deep end..

A couple of days ago, near here in Raleigh, during the morning rush hour, a drunk illegal in a stolen Tahoe crossed a median and slammed head-on into two cars, killing a man. Now think about the laundry list of charges he just racked up. Grand theft auto, vehicular homicide, felony DUI, reckless driving, identity theft, giving police a false name...Lord only knows what else they could stick him with.

It sure sounds to me like that man could apply for a Z-1 visa under this bill so he could stay in the country after he serves his time. For that matter, considering how long it’ll probably take to bring him to trial, if this bill passes, he might be able to apply for a Z-1 from jail while awaiting trial. He’s not a sex offender. Apparently he’s not a “certain” gang member. Yeah, there’s the slight matter of him having been deported twice before from Texas several years ago, but hey, that doesn’t count!

Think about it.
