As my wife (a woman who has shopped in this exact area for thrity years) says, they will trot out a bunch of mean stuff his momma did to him and he will be out of jail in 60 months and kill again...that's the way that Kansas has fallen.
Here in Knoxville, TN we had several gruesome murders within about five miles of where I live, including one of an assistant manager of a Radio Shack that was just next door to a Chinese restaurant I'd often gone to. Those murders were more than enough convincing for me to get a carry permit and start packing heat. I've had the permit now for over ten years and continue to pack. If you and your wife don't have permits and aren't packing, you ought to get them and start packing.
If he killed her in Missouri then they can try him for the murder there. They're not so shy about executions.
It depends on where he killed her. If he did it in Missouri, we will see him die. He also crossed state lines to do this, so if the feds have a death sentence for this, it will come into play. Whoever did this to her will pay with their life.
