When the lightning crackled in New Hampshire and knocked out the microphones, Mayor Giuliani, once a parochial-school kid, cracked that God must be angry with him. But the real invisible presence shaking up the Republican primary debate on CNN last night was not the Almighty. It was Fred Thompson.
One might call him the 6'5" elephant in the room but he wasn't in the room at all. He was in Fox News's Washington, D.C., studio, waiting to go on "Hannity & Colmes" for a softball interview that would serve as his own personal post-game show, free of such petty distractions as a moderator or, say, his opponents.
Sean Hannity tried to get the former Tennessee senator to weigh in on the just-concluded melee, but Mr. Thompson was having none of it. "I don't want to talk about other candidates," he said. "I'm sure that they're good guys."

You knew that. The Eleventh Commandment stands for now.
“Fred is a classy guy.”
Classy, honorable, and dedicated to the truth. He will win!
A kick-ass conservative that will not take any crap from the libs and the rotten MSM — saw him with Hannity tonight and he was calling the MSM a bunch of bozos....it is about time this nation had someone that would stand up to the criminal left.

Hey futz, if your going to write a hit piece or malign a person, at least get his title straight.
He is a former Republican Senator who represented the State of Tennessee.
You’ve got that right. I just want a President who speaks straight. I’ve long tired of the double talk and rambling of this current administration. They can’t even stand up for our troops without calling those that malign them Patriots? The religion of peace crap and the stupid diversity comments have soured me on Bush. Conservatives will never win when they speak and play by rules defined by liberals.
You may be right in your assessment here, but I believe the NY Sun is friendly to conservatives
From the article: “softball interview.”
I saw it & I agree, but has Hillary ever had anything but a “softball interview.”
Double standard: Softball interviews are bad if they are with Conservatives, OK if they are with Liberals.
Not only that but the team roster lists him at 6’6”, guard.
I know, they could have been more respectable or just honest.
“A kick-ass conservative”
Fred doesn’t meet the standards imposed by some conservatives.

It is a good, serious book about the need to reconcile these two major factions within the GOP, as Reagan, Bush I and Bush II did, if they hope to win.
He traces the history of the conservative movement and Republican party from WWII to present.
He opines that if either faction gains supremacy, too much is lost from the other faction, to win.
I suspect he interviews Fred with a mind that he is the candidate who can bring both factions in to support him.
I like the way he is handling his possible campaign. Shows he can play fire with fire and he is not afraid to go up against the loonies.
My dream is a Thompson/Hunter ticket. It would be like having two Reagans in the White House. Imagine that. :)
The standards that some conservatives impose are impossible to meet by any individual.
