Oh by the way. I forgot to dismiss McCain as a candidate even though he doesnt stand a prayer.

Here is food for thought and I dont mean this to be dismissive of Thompson.

Thompson and McCain are old friends from the senate and their voting records are very similar.
In light of that, I find it interesting that McCain is persona nongrata here and Thompson is all the rage.

Personaly I think the explanation there is that McCain comes off as a hothead and doesnt explain himself well.
Thompson has the opposite personality, is measured and reasoned and thoughtful in his actions.

>> A year and a half before election day isn't "sitting on his ass". <<

Voters start going to the polls to select a President in January, that's only six monthes away... not "a year and a half"

And given that Fred first said he was considering the Presidency back on March 9th, what do you call his activites for the last FOUR monthes? How much longer does he need to "think about" running? Tell him to get off his rear and head to Iowa like the rest of 'em have been doing for monthes while he's been at home "thinking"

Time for Fred to make the case why we should elect him. I initially favored Fred much more than Romney but after monthes of seeing Romney take blows on TV and give solid answers while Fred's supporters constantly spin his record FOR him, the situation is now reversed. Romney's looking better and better these days.

For starters, how about ol' Fred explain why he voted AGAINST higher fines for employers that higher illegal aliens if he's as anti-illegal as he claims to be. C'mon Fred, let's hear it straight from you, not your little fanbase online.

Fred is MUCH more conservative than McInsane.

During the eight years that Thompson and McCain served together, they cast votes on 102 CQ-defined key votes and agreed on 83 of them - or 81.4 percent of the time. They disagreed 18.6% of the time, that’s pretty high considering that both are Republicans and both are considered relatively conservative. Just as an example from one year, among the instances in which Thompson and McCain differed were votes in 2002 to effectively extend a repeal of the estate tax beyond 2010, to authorize oil drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and to postpone tougher automobile fuel efficiency standards. Thompson voted “aye” and McCain voted “no” in all three cases.

He also was the lone standout against three bills he thought to be encroachments on states’ rights. (DUI blood levels, Mandatory seat belt laws, and I can’t recall the third right at this moment.)

Thanks for the info.

Seatbelt laws piss me off (seriously!)

I hadent done a personal comparison but had read that they had similar voting records from several sources

This is the text email he offers to send to your friends:

I’m one of tens of thousands of Americans encouraging former Sen. Fred Thompson to run for President. I’d like you to join with me and Fred and all our friends in changing the political landscape in 2008. Senator Thompson recently announced that he was taking some preliminary steps toward entering the Presidential race, and to show my support I signed on as a “Friend of Fred Thompson.” I’m writing to ask you to consider doing the same.

Senator Thompson has been a prosecutor, a Senator, and yes, he’s had a couple of movie roles. More importantly, he’s exactly what we need right now – a consistent conservative who can unite our nation and help lead us in fixing our problems, not exploiting them for political purposes.

He’s plain-spoken and means what he says. On the immigration bill, for example, Fred calls it like he sees it:
“No matter how much lipstick Washington tries to slap onto this legislative pig, it’s not going to win any beauty contests. … We should scrap this “comprehensive” immigration bill until the government can show the American people that we have secured the borders — or at least made great headway.”

On folks in Washington who want to raise our taxes:

“They only want to target the rich. They’re off target again, just like they were with the alternative minimum tax. Remember, that was supposed to just target the rich. A word of advice to anyone in the middle class – don’t stand anywhere near that target.”

On leadership:

“We’re going to have to be more focused, we’re going to have be smarter and we’re going to have to be more determined and we’re going to have to be more together as a nation than we’ve ever been before.”

Fred has said he wants to do things differently. He wants to focus on returning to our founding principles of self-governance, free markets and the rule of law. Those are ideas we’re all invested in – focused on building a stronger, more competitive and innovative America that remains a beacon for the world today … and for the next generation.

I’ve done my part to encourage Fred to run, and I want you to join me. Visit ImWithFred.com to sign up. If we can get enough people to sign on with us and support us, we can change America … together.

Thanks for your interest. I hope you’ll join me and become a Friend of Fred.

No one. Just addressing this: “His fans are blind to how he appears to those outside their circle.” Could be that some Hunter supporters, like me, aren’t “blind,” but simply don’t care how he appears to those “outside their circles.”

That's as good an explanation as any as to why Hunter won't be elected president--he and his supporters don't care how he appears to anyone but his uberfans.

A president isn't only concerned with how those who already know him before he runs feel about him. There are these people called "voters" and not all of them are hardcore Hunter fans. If you don't care how he looks to them, don't be bewildered when he goes nowhere with them, even though they might be interested.

You can't REALLY be this silly.

If you didn't know I was talking about election day when I used the term, uh, ELECTION DAY, then you're just being argumentative. (I think the word you're looking for is "months".)

Tell him to get off his rear and head to Iowa like the rest of 'em have been doing for monthes while he's been at home "thinking"

What have you got against someone who thinks?

Time for Fred to make the case why we should elect him. I initially favored Fred much more than Romney but after monthes of seeing Romney take blows on TV and give solid answers while Fred's supporters constantly spin his record FOR him, the situation is now reversed. Romney's looking better and better these days.

Romney is all talk--I'm from Massachusetts, and I say that from facts, not from the glitter-eyed fans who see him on the tube and giving answers that are nice NOW.

Your impatience is, frankly, weird--what do you care how long Thompson takes to run?

For starters, how about ol' Fred explain why he voted AGAINST higher fines for employers that higher illegal aliens if he's as anti-illegal as he claims to be. C'mon Fred, let's hear it straight from you, not your little fanbase online.

As opposed to the Hunter/Tancredo fanbase?

You really had to dig hard to find some "dirt" on Thompson, and it's pretty lame--on ALL the issues, all you could find to shock! shock! us about is one element of the anti-illegal issue?

And really, anyone whose big insult against Thompson is that he's spending too long "thinking" should learn the difference between "higher" fines and "those who HIRE illegal aliens"--not "higher" illegal aliens, unless we're talking about those who smoke more weed than others.

But it's interesting how you are so peeved at Thompson taking so long to get into the race. I mean, it's not like he is waiting to announce in November the year before the election like, oh, Ronald Reagan did. ;)

Just in case you missed it:

Nov 13, 1979 Reagan announced his candidacy for President.

Nov 4 1980 Reagan was elected the 40th President of the United States in a landslide victory over the incumbent, immy Carter.

So, I guess Ronald Wilson Reagan was just "sitting on his rear" doing that awful "thinking" stuff until November 1979?
