The 10 cents @ gallon profit margin is a bit misleading because it doesn’t take into consideration that the oil industry actually owns/operates all or most levels of gasoline production, so they actually are getting a profit cut at each level, from the well, to the “wholesale” level, to the refinery, to the distributors, etc.
But I won't deny that the government is taking the lion's share.
