WASHINGTON - Republicans moved Tuesday to seek Rep. William J. Jeffersons expulsion from the House, a day after the Louisiana Democrat was indicted on charges of receiving more than $500,000 in bribes.
Jefferson, meanwhile, relinquished his seat on the House Small Business Committee before members of his own party could vote to kick him off the panel.
In a two-paragraph letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Jefferson, 60, said he was taking the step in the light of recent developments in a legal matter.
Republicans, citing Pelosis election-season promise to run the most ethical House in history, sought Jeffersons expulsion from the chamber, possibly before he comes to trial on the bribery charges.

Note to Repubs...Get on it, stay on it, get him out of there. The Dems would get on YOU, stay on YOU until YOU were outta there. Give ‘em a taste of it.
I won’t be happy until he does more than 30 months in federal prison. PERIOD!
What is Louisiana law on replacing him in term?
MOCKING HIM ON YOUTUBE — http://youtube.com/watch?v=hE2EpTpZ264
Didn’t Pelosi want to appoint him to some big position?
... and a case of beer.
Somebody please give me some links of what Democrats were saying about DeLay after his indictment. It would be especially sweet if those who are now saying “innocent until proven guilty” were calling for DeLay’s resignation.
Jefferson should serve far more than Scooter.
Can I get citizenship and then use the card to watch some pole dancing?
It’ll be interesting to see if the Dems bail out even before he’s convicted.
He’s a democrat. Nothing will happen to him.
If nothing happens then that will be a political issue for the Republicans.
What with leaders like Trent Lott, the neutered cheerleader?
You have ANY confidence any Republican congress critter has and nads?
Maybe this guy could be replaced with his lost twin brother, Marion Barry. They are two of a kind! :)
Democrat. Black. Exempt from the rules.
Another excellent parody, DFU!
